Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

It is. You need conventional RSS. Second make sure you have a cable with either the rib built into the db-9 or a proper rib and cables for the rib. These radios will not program with a usb cable

From the OP info the radio has a bad 'codeplug' or a bad firmware problem.

The fact that the radio does beep three times seems to indicate the radio does 'see' the programming cable and the com test.

Do you know is it's a trunked or conventional radio?

What is the band split ? If you don't know you can find if with the model number.

If your trying to convert a trunked to conventional radio you may need lab RSS.

There is a little more to it than something simple.

If you want to change from a trunking model to conventional, you WILL need Lab RSS.

And you WILL need conventional firmware.

That and the ability to re-align the radio.

If it really is a trunked radio, then it pretty much should be 800 mhz or 900 mhz.

So, if you don't have a need for either of those bands, it might not be worth the work.

It also depends on the firmware if it is a trunked radio. Later trunked radios were capable of having 10 coventional channels programmed, but you had to use the trunked RSS to program them.
