Just wondering how you guys are setup for decoding?
Antenna
Coax
RTL Dongle /Radarbox/SBS-1 etc?

Has anyone determined the best antenna for ADS-B?

The best antenna for the money, hands-down, is the no-solder collinear. Unbelieveable performance.
I second that opinion. Here is a snapshot of my coverage (CYQI) back in August (8-segment co-linear)

Here's my screenshot. Not using the collinear type antenna. I found an aircraft L-Band blade on Ebay and mounted it to a small aluminum plate. A few adaptors to get to MCX and into the rtl dongle. Then a long USB extender to the pc. Antenna atop my house, office pc downstairs. Plotting all altitudes in VRS green. Gives a nice idea of the range.

the important qestion is how high are you. In my case i use an simple and small TV Antenna onboard an Aircraft and you can believe the range is amazing.

Hello All

I am using an SBS 3 with a modified 900 MHZ control station antenna at 50' with LMR 400 for my plot.

Im using the following setup:

Hardware:
RTL stick
Homebrew colinear antenna in the attic
~50ft RG6
A cheap satalite preamp (want to upgrade to a better LNA)
1090 notch filter (Mini-Circuits VBFZ-1065-S+)

Software:
Dump1090
Virtual Radar Server
Planeplotter (I share my data to help with MLATs)

Feed my Data to:
Flightradar24.com
flightaware.com (via planeplotter)
Milaircomms.com

Here is a screenshot of my range using Virtual Radar Server
(Light gray is range for aircraft flying lower that 10,000 ft)
