10/23/2014 - San Antonio Radio System Troubles

I've received multiple reports that the San Antonio EDACS Radio System is experiencing major problems this morning. SAPD and SA Fire is almost completely down and unable to use the system at this time.

Anyone know what the exact problems are?

Heard Bexar County Fire Alarm give a general announcement this A.M. that if you could not hear them, or them you, call fire alarm via land line. Also, BCSO East Patrol was heard on Topperwein in the clear for a short period. Not sure if that was related to the fiber issue.

I wonder what "backup" system they were using?

I saw that some of the SAPD dispatchers were using what appeared to be backup console IDs and even possibly handhelds, so I wonder if the connectivity issues extended to the dispatch center.

All depends on what kind of fiber cable was cut. could have affected only certain sites and maybe just the consoles. for certain patrol areas
