It would make sense that they would use DMR. There are several DMR Ham Radio Repeaters that are tied together across the country. They are tying them via voice over internet.

DMR-MARC Network

It's not a perfect system, but would work for everyday communications if every plant had perfect data stream and power. The system is only as strong as the world wide web.

I wonder why the company did not utilize just one freq band, so one radio could be used in any location?

Fort a lot of their facilities, they are just upgrading the older Motorola systems that are there to MotoTRBO's. They would have done so here, but for the fact the facility completely shut down, and is now being made over into the Marion County Criminal Justice Complex. Will have all the Courts, and Jails combined into the one mega facility.

Not to mention, those XPR's are pretty robust with multi band.. DMR versions of the APX's basically.

The systems are not using the Internet, they are using private data links with encrypted VPNs for buffering and latency. Seems to work very well, especially where fiber is available, the latency is under 20ms.

Too bad there is so much unconfirmed data in the DB for this system. Sites that haven't been confirmed active, with confirmed site numbers and LCNs should never have been added (per admin handbook, etc). Oh well.

I copied Site 1 Lordstown (Trumbull Co OH) last night during a band opening and was able to confirm the active CC at the time was 451.225 and that the site uses DCC 1. (I'm betting there are multiple CCs) In addition, there are two licenses associated with that site, which is good - since I can say there are at least 10 active frequencies on the system. I saw activity on most LCNs from 1-12. I kept everything in the DB for this site that was already listed, even though the LCN order on Site 1 has not been determined. (and I'm sure LCN order on 99% of those sites is unknown).

I noted TGs 1002, 1011, 1014 and 1016 in use on that site. I'm sure there are more. I wasn't listening to voice audio, so I could not determine what tasks were being done on what talkgroups.

It's a very busy site, for anyone who may be inclined to monitor it. It's not a high profile site, since it's intended to server the facility. So you'd have to be close or have good elevation / antennas to pick it up a county or more away.
