On a recent trip to Reno from CA, we encountered a situation on that new stretch of freeway between Bowers Mansion and Mt Rose Hwy. N bound, about mid-way on that stretch, there is a break in the center barricade. A NHP motor officer was sitting there holding a device to one of his eyes, observing the N bound
traffic. I was doing about 72 mph in a 70 zone, no problem. My radar detector did not alert.
Further on down the road, there was another NHP motor officer just completing a stop. He made a U turn shortly after that, heading back S. So I assume there were two of them, taking turns working that stretch.
Any of you locals familiar with this situation? Were they using Lidar? My detector had that enabled I think, but as I said, no alert. They were not there when we returned to CC the next day, nor when we drove back home the day after that.
Thanks, Norm.
