Talkgroups D-12 and C-10 has an automated voice dispatching MFD units.

These are fireground TG's. Started noticing 10/31.

Matthew Tomek can you verify?

Just dispatched apartment fire in Frayser and Pedestrian struck @ Dunlap and Poplar.

Sounds like they are testing the new dispatch system in preparations for going P25?

They're running some tests before they go live with the new automated station alerting system. It may be after the first of the year before it goes live.

Gonna miss hearing the old Tone, "Companies standbye." Tones, "Engine blah ladder blah,...." By a live voice dispatcher. Automated locution dispatch takes getting used to.

When it comes to automated dispatch I kind of feel like an idiot. How does it exactly work?. Does the voice sound like the NOAA weather radio robot?. Up here we don't have any of that but would not be surprised it may appear at some point. With MDC's, the status of the run is a push of a button, kind of like automation. Seems strange anything thing dealing with public safety would rely on a computerized voice dispatcher.

Thanks for your thoughts...

It is actually a real recorded human voice. The computer reads it off the CAD screen and transmits it as voice. One main benefit is it can dispatch up to 20 runs at the same time, as it is sent to the stations over the internet not radio, reducing call stacking and greatly increasing response times.

Imagine you get 3 EMS runs and 2 fires at the same time. An actual dispatcher would take 3 or 4 minutes to dispatch them over the radio whereas CAD Voice would send them simultaneously. A dispatcher reviews the call on the CAD first then approves it for automated dispatch.

Columbus has had it for 5 or 6 years. They average 450 runs a day. It also dispatches the information in the same sequence every time which makes it easier to understand, and it frees up dispatchers to handle 911 calls and work fireground channels, and reduces stress.

Columbus Division of Fire, Franklin County Fire and EMS ( Columbus Uses It - Franklin County does not ).

Fire Station Alerting System | Locution Systems Colorado There is also an audio sample here.

It will also work on any system not just P25. Columbus is Motorola Type II Analog.

We use it here on the IDPS, and several FD's using it on SAFE-T. It sounded like the NOAA female voice at first, but has improved quite a bit over time. it is used full time for audio dispatching for every call. Unless they need to train dispatchers, or there is a system error. The runs are simulcast to the MDT's, and MDT's are used to mark on the run, and for special status updates. IFD/MCFS announces on scene vocally to set up ICP. IEMS used the MDT's to mark on scene except in conjunction with a MCI, or Fire call. IEMS uses MDT's to mark out at Hospitals etc.

Our dispatch opens with two tones over the TRS, then the Robo Dispatcher. Only other time there are tones in use, is the rapid four tone beeps to alert units an announcement is being made by Control.

Shelby County Fire will replace the Zetron system with Locution in the near future as well.

I'm told that Memphis Fire will swap the new automated vocal over to the conventional vocal frequency (855.2375) in the near future. In the meantime, it will continue to be re-broadcast on Delta 12.

Anyone know if they're using the conventional frequency again? (I've heard the locution dispatches on the PD feed now and then when its not busy, would be great to possibly get it back on the fire feed again once they get everything all set up).

Im heading down to memphis in a few weeks, and im getting everything reprogrammed for down there again, was wondering if they put it back on the Conv or if its still on D12.
Thanks

The new automated vocal alarm is not being broadcast over the air right now. As soon as (and if) it's broadcast over the conventional vocal frequency, the feed will be brought back up.
