This is a Youtube video of a mod for the RTL 820T dongle for those interested. I tried using a jumper wire before soldering it in, didn't have much luck. SDR Sharp would shutdown after it said the driver needed to be installed, already was installed.

Actually I started with that one but then I found this one.

Direct Sampling Mode with No Hardware Modifcations - rtl-sdr.com

No hardware mod needed, according to the author.

I think I need a better antenna for this to work, will have to get a longer wire, currently using six feet of wire ( not bare wire, it has a plastic coating). but it there is no detected signal anywhere. I am scanning from 500 khz to 20 Mhz. Even though I think it should bring up something.

The other thing I was wondering about, is this mod for all versions or just newer versions of SDR Sharp?

Interesting Mod!

Seems simple enough. I want to try this mod as I have 3 dongles. My question is, does performing this mod take away what the dongle covers now in the 25-1300 mhz spectrum? Or is the 500khz-14 mhz coverage an addition to whats already there?

Stays the same, anyways make a copy of the version you are now using so if anything goes wrong you can replace it.

I don't think the no hardware mod works for the R820T. Its for the E4000 chip.
