Looks like 601 is now active.

I'm not able to log it, but from neighbor reports it's on the air with a control channel of 853.9875.
The old sites of 161 Walking Stick, 165 Jackson Hill, and 166 Goat Hill are all showing failed indicating that they are now part of the Simulcast.

Pueblo Changes

Would you be so kind to explain this, in rookie terms, and what needs to be done on the radio to monitor this? Is it still trunked?
Are there other frequencies that need to be set under this control channel?
1-061 (CSU Pueblo) and 1-039 (San Carlos) still seems to be functional, but 1-066 (Goat Hill - Most of Pueblo City) appears to be gone now.
BTW any ideas on AMR dispatch? I can monitor AMR to the hospitals, but have not found their dispatch.
Thank you!

You might need to replace (or remove) the old control channel frequencies and replace it with the single new one once the simulcast is fully functional, however it looks sounds like the control channel for the new system will be the 139-San Carlos frequency so it would only really require the removal of old control channels that are no longer used. Basically all the old Pueblo sites are being transitions to this single new site. The system is still trunked and will operate as if it were a single site on DTRS and should typically be business as normal, however you may notice differences in reception depending on a number of conditions. You may want to program the alternate control channels if you do stationary monitoring of Pueblo, but that information requires direct logging of the 601-Pueblo Simulcast and is being requested.

I haven't done any monitoring in the Pueblo area before so sorry if I can't be much help here, but I would guess that they are on American Medical Response LTR. The biggest thing to note about this is that they would likely be on an unknown talkgroup that hasn't been listed yet, so you would need to program some kind of wildcard/search to look for it. If they aren't on that system, then it's possible that they are sending calls via pager/MDT.

TG 4451 was once listed as Pueblo Emergency Services somewhere, but it's always been encrypted. I have noticed a lot of radios that have been identified as AMR on that TG, so I suspect it's a likely candidate.

AMR Dispatch

Hi. Tim here from Colorado Springs. According to the RR database, AMR Pueblo Dispatch is on TG 4897. Here in the Springs they are on TG 4895. This is the actual AMR Base to Ambulance dispatch. Hope that helps.

So given the above information, I'm guessing it's likely safe to say that Site 139 - San Carlos Correctional, Site 161 - CSU Pueblo, Site 165 - Jackson Hill, and Site 166 - Goat Hill are all defunct. Should we verify this before having them removed from the database?

Pueblo Simulcast

Bear in mind, I'm quite far from an expert on this, but I have to question if this change is working as well as it may have been anticipated. After wasting too much time trying to determine why I was having difficulties monitoring since the change was made, I found that the root of my problem was the signal strength. I live in the city, and had to go to a better antenna, quite a bit better. Admittedly, I was only using the small one that came with the scanning radio, but, if I'm having problems, I would have to think that there are many more problems being encountered with signal strength.
As best I can determine, CSU, and Goat Hill have gone quiet, so Simulcast (using San Carlos) is the only active site within the city. It is not centrally located at all.
So, IMHO, it might be wise to let these sit in the database, for a little while, in case one of these has to be reactivated to provide sufficient coverage.
Just one persons opinion...
Happy New Year!!
Ed

It's likely that public safety users are not getting the same issues you are getting, or they are not as affected by the issues. It's a known problem of simulcast digital distortion, and most scanners have been known to handle this rather poorly. The simulcast is treated by the system as a single site, however in reality it's actually 5 radio towers transmitting the same thing so it's actually giving public safety a larger footprint then they previously had with just 4 sites.
