Cranbrook Radio Traffic

I'm visiting for the Christmas vacation and got a chance to check radio traffic in Cranbrook.
Heard some call signs and thought I would toss them out to the group and look for some help.

I've heard a lot of EMS traffic due to last night's snow fall ...
I've heard 414K, 413K, 414F, 414E ... so my question to the group is "what does the Letter at the end of the number mean? Is there a system to it?" (Zones / Type of unit/ Etc ???)

I've also heard a lot of Mainroad Highway Snow Removal vehicles on 143.895 MHz.

Not a lot of radio traffic from the local Fire Department ... do they have full time staff or all volunteer?

Anyone in the Cranbrook area who can pass along some info?

Scan BC says Cranbrook uses MOTOTRBO radios, so you will not hear them.
