Crazy question. When I looked on the SD card of my HP-2, I noticed the file for the screen is a JPEG file. Can I load a custim JPEG in there and change the opening screen of the HP2?

Yes. As long as you replace it with a JPG the exact same size, and the exact same name. If you don't keep both of those original parameters, the firmware will overwrite yours back to the original as soon as it reboots.
If you want the original back again, simply delete your file completely from the SD card, and the Home Patrol firmware will re-write the original graphic back as soon as it re-boots..
