Shelby county has announced that they will be finally going live with the P 25 January 21.

phase 2 is a new format for digital transmissions. it can not be picked up on older digital scanners.

So with this being a phase 2 will you still be able to hear them if you had a newer digital radio such as a apx 7000? I'm assuming it would not work on the older Motorola xts 5000.

The XTS5000 is not capable of TDMA (phase 2) communications. The APX7000 is, with the TDMA flash.

this ia a harris p-25 system. i think motorola radios are not compat. with harris systems

Motorola radios are compatible with any true P25 System including Harris.

i was going to purchase some harris radios for use on a p-25 motorola systems i was told by both brand techs it was a no go

P25 is P25. It's a standard so all radios can talk together. Where you get incompatability, is when you start throwing in different features like encryption, tdma/fdma, Over the air programming, and many other things. But at the core of it, the radios will work cross-platform no matter what the vendor. I have 3 manufacturers on mine.

I had to make a quick trip up to Birmingham last Friday. Going through Shelby County, I did hear activity on their new trunked system. I remember radio techs testing on 502 and 503 and a simulcast from one user on 510 (i'll have to check that one to be sure.)

All the traffic I picked up was P-25 Phase 1

Tonight heard activity on 155.8350. Dispatch talking to Vincent FD at a structure fire. I actually saw Vincent PD and Shelby S.O. Arrive on scene but didn't hear any activity from Shelby S.O. Dispatch like I usually do on 154.7850

Just heard Cahaba Valley Fire on their normal frequency.

Pelham PD is using their normal UHF.
