To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Just got one of these repeaters to replace my downed gmrs GE.

The radio portion of it (not the control head ) has an antenna port on the back ( near the power) and one in the front. Anyone know which is Tx and RX?

Also, sans a duplexer, how far apart do the antennas need to be??

Thanks.

Back is TX the one on the front of the chassis is RX. They make a great GMRS repeater, however back the power down as you will burn it up. If it is a high power unit backing down to 30 watts should be good.

I have done a lot of work with 1225 radios and have never heard of one with an antenna port of the front of the radio. Picture available?

As for placement of antennas, if not use a duplexer, then best option is at least 15-20 feet vertical or 30-40 feet horizontal.

I think he meant the radio as a hole in the front part of the repeater chassis is the RX radio.

An R1225 radio has both the transmitter and the receiver in the same chassis.
The radio IS full duplex, can Rx and TX at the same time.

It has two antenna connectors, the one on the heatsink is TX.
The RX antenna connector is on the front along with the control connector.
