Radio Shack?

I hear from friends in Chicago that lots of stores in that area are clearing out and closing but then, Chicagoland has lots of stores (Allied, which Tandy/RS bought in the 1970s was based there).

I went to the Norman store today. They say they aren't going out of business. OK, that may be true, but they did say that they have been sending stuff to a "clearance store" that is either in Tulsa or MWC ... Anyone know of something like that?

Naturally, I'm looking for excellent deals on scanners.

If there's a "clearance store" in Tulsa, I'm not aware of it. However, I will be watching this thread to see if someone has come across that store around here.

I saw something in the paper the other day about them filing bankruptcy and would be closing lots of stores.

Nothing about local stores though.

Press reports had them wanting to close around 1100 stores but only had enough cash to close 175. Time is running out for RadioShack - Dec. 29, 2014

Unfortunately for Radio Shack, the company is so cash-strapped that it can't afford to close them, either.

Closing stores is an expensive undertaking. It requires cash for paying severance, liquidating merchandise and paying penalties to exit leases early.

Management announced a plan earlier this year to close about 1,100 stores, but it has only been able to come up with enough cash to close 175 stores through the end of October. It is currently battling with its lenders to get the green light to close more stores.

The Belle Isle store is scheduled to close. That is what one store associate told me, for what it is worth.

Some stores have been "labeled" as clearance stores. The one near me here in KC has 50% off every item in the store. I picked up a satellite alignment meter marked down to $1.97 with an additional 50% off. Other clearance stores in the area have up to 25% off. They get in new discontinued/discounted stuff every day. This has drawn the biggest crowds in the stores I have ever seen.

I guess the thing to do is to just go check a few of the stores between work and the house. If I find a particular "clearance" location in Tulsa, I'll report it back here...after I pick over what I want, that is.

The KC OP store at 75th and Metcalf has a sign 75% off. It was closed when I went there Sunday and couldn't see into the back where they previously had the scanner stuff. FYI Chinatown Express next door has the worst crabragoon.

I drove through the parking lot of the Radio Shack on Sooner Rd at about SE 15th in Midwest City. If it is a "clearance store" there are no signs or other evidence.

Check the RS store at Admiral & Sheridan in Tulsa, of all the locations this one may be the one. Through the years it always carried a larger selection of "stuff" than the other stores. About 1980 I bought a model 100 laptop there!

There are several clearance stores in South Jersey. One is scheduled to close for good this Sunday (Superbowl Sunday). I picked up a couple of Electronics Component Kits (kit 1) for $19 each and a kit2 for $22. I also picked up one of their 2000629 SW receivers with SSB (RadioShack Synthesized World Receiver : Shortwave & multiband radios | RadioShack.com) for $10!

Sad to see so many stores closing though.

The Radios Shack store in Howell, MI (Genoa Twp.) is a clearance store and will be closing. The Brighton, MI store will remain open.

As I said to someone the other day, I hate to see this happen, but really, what strategy could there possibly be to keep them afloat? Sprint and Amazon only want them for their store leases - neither will be selling 4.7-ohm resistors in packs of 5 on a Sunday afternoon.

OK, Amazon might, but even if it was delivered to the store (which seems to be what they are planning for bigger metros (I mean like Dallas, not OKC) you'd still have to pick it up tomorrow. It's not like they'll stock it.

I just want one of the new Whistlers for cheap. :-D

There are a few good deals at closeout stores. Bought a discone for ~$40, Midland weather radio for $22, 50 ft run of rg58 ~$15. Someone already cleared out Belle Isle of their cheap arduino boards.

This thread needs to remember ALL RadioShack FRANCHISES are not affected by the chapter 11 bankruptcy. They may still operate. The chapter 11 only covers CORPORATE RadioShack in general. The final hearing begins March 2015. There are a few RadioShacks not listed like the one on Nw23rd St by Pennsylvania Ave OKC. that is probably a franchise and may still operate.
