Define "lose memory" - no programming at all?

Or if you are asking if it will lose the memory, no, it should not. It will lose the clock settings after a week or so without power.

Also, some functions such as recording will be disabled.

Don't run a 436 without batteries. It will disable recording and other functions. Also, if the power cable jiggles loose, you can corrupt the memory card and temporarily brick the scanner until you reformat it.

Nothing wrong using a 436 as a mobile, just keep a set of batteries in it.
