Looks like the old Highband VHF Frequency has had its emission changed for 11K2F3E (Narrowband FM) to 8K10F1E (P25 Phase 1 C4FM).
Guess I am gonna have to search for NACs being used on this frequency.

Actually it looks like most of the Highband VHF stuff is being modified for P25 C4FM.

I've heard a few P25 keyups on 154.680 over the last week in the Greensboro area, but haven't been quick enough to get a nac.

Isn't P-25 pretty much the wave of the future on low VHF and higher? It would seem when the
narrow band change came it was a perfect time to just go to P-25.

Marshall:

This has a similar ring to what is going on with the Georgia State Patrol. Not only are they converting their existing VHF-High to P25, but they have licensed new numerous narrowband frequencies throughout the state and they are P25 as well.

I don't see any VHF antennas on the cars these days. Gonna be a while before they go back there but why would they after all the Viper transitions? Doesn't make any sense to me...

from some of the stuff i am getting at work, and talking to some people......... all law enforcement may be encrypted. and it may be sooner than you think.

I cant say anything else about it.

It would cost our agency a fortune to go encrypted. ...and we don't have black helicopters

Almost all agencies are adding P25 emissions on VHF High for NC.... And yes, Encryption Packages are pretty much standard on Motorola Public Safety radios (APX etc...) now, with the standard option for it to be ON, with turning it off left up to each agency's discretion. The only thing not going P25 is VHF Low as the "Skip" issues would be hard to work around. Would be interesting to see P25 on that band lol.

159.315 nac 526

Just to add some info here I have been hearing the standard dig buzz on 159.315 which until i saw this post i had down as shared Wildlife/SBI(presumably SBI no longer uses?) but i have in my notes at least once received NAC 526. also i have "20141" down beside that, i may have meant as a TGID but can't say for sure, but just thought i would throw that out there if it helps anyone.

For grins and giggles, I done a search on 159.315 and 154.680. Both show the licensee to be North Carolina State Highway Patrol and both say something in the Part 90 eligibility line of "LAW ENFORCEMENT AND PUBLIC SAFETY ACTIVITIES ON HB"

Enjoy

CAP $526

over time i have noticed that the encrypted 159.315 $526 has a very distinct non-sound sound. what i mean to say as opposed to what other encrypted comms sound like with their constant gobble-gobble-gobble, this is distinct by having very sporatic sounds with mainly quiet: gob....gob......lle..........gob........, so to speak, almost like an open carrier. this is regardless of transmission length/strength, while an analog scanner on same freq is screaming at me with its constant buzz. fyi bc346xt and pro-668 as equip in this situation.

heard the same thing while driving about 2 or three days back, and thought oh same thing as always, finally had a chance to turn and look..... and it was 148.15 buzzing on the 346 and the same non-sound-sound on the 668 showing 148.15 $526. concord (where i was at the time) has $526 listed for its R48P-CONCORD channel, but was what i was hearing encrypted?

the audible characteristics were similar enough that i was caught off guard and driving precluded noticing if "ENC" was displayed before it was over.

any thoughts?

I work there, and have no clue. lol

There is nothing in my car now or planned for the future that have anything to do with VHF so we will all have to wait and see together

Don't I know you from somewhere? ;)
I keep the Highband VHF in my APX 7000 just in case. Never know when those freqs might be dusted off and used for training or the like.

CAP does have the capability (Depending on the Mission) to run ENC

Maybe a few of the Disaster Op Missions for the flooding required some ENC
