Was going to buy a new scanner. Was looking at a handheld to take out on the town. I listen to Gloucester county mostly and don't need Digital or Trunked for that. I don't listen to the State police. I may take the radio to atlantic city and was somewhat interested in listening to the casinos. Looking into the data bank I see the systems are trunked but listed as Analog if this is the case Would I be ok with the BC346XTC or would there be a real advantage on buying the BCD436HP at double the price. I would be useing it at home and around town most of the time and could use a 75.00 scanner for that. thanks

Any of the older lower tier trunking scanners should work for what you want to do including the 346XTC. Keep in mind in another year or so Gloucester County is suppose to switch to a 700MHz phase II P25 system. Then you will need the 436HP or something that does P25 phase II. The police will probably be encrypted but who knows.

Thank you for the info.

I know the frequency changed because of interference. But not aware they were going digital. I know scanners have come a long way since I had my BC205xlt Maby I should just invest the extra and get a new outside antenna and coax and start with a new Digital radio.

I just want to second what Skypilot007 said - failing to plan for the next year in that county is wasting money. Get one of the latest Uniden or Whistler models if you can afford it...
