Why is Montville Fire dispatched on both 151.0025 & 159.3525? Why are they not on a single frequency?

Anyone have an answer to this one?

2 towers can not transmit on the same frequency at the same time. It would cause problems and you would not be able to hear it. its like keying up your radio with your pager turned up and you get the squeal.

There is no way to have repeaters on the same frequency? You know, like a multi-site system.

I tend to get both towers with the same reception in my home in Niantic, which is why this has always perplexed me.

A multi site system is on different frequencies you can have a system set up to select witch site you transmit from and be on the same frequency but not at the same time from what I understand

Thanks, I never really gave it much thought, but always seemed odd because the coverage from both of Station M's towers seems to be pretty good.

I get that Dan, but why not have them on the same frequency? Wouldn't that make life more logical?

It would make it much more logical but I'm sure Money is the problem. Many towns in CT have simulcast system that use 4,5 even 6 towers transmitting on the same frequency at the same time but its not cheep, you need GPS at each site and the connectivity between the sites needs to be fast, Like T1 or microwave. That's the correct way, their are company's out there that make simulcast equipment that cuts corners and sort of works. Best to do it the right way the first time :)

Here a few towns I know of that have good simulcast systems and how many sites if I know ( You can find out in the FCC license)

Each service using the same frequency at the same time from mutable sites

Southbury PD, FD, EMS & PW 3 Sites
Old Saybrook FD & PD 2 Sites
Clinton FD & PD 2 Sites
Branford FD, PD & PW 3 Sites
Woodbridge FD & PD 3 Sites
Milford PD & FD 3 Sites
Stratford PD, FD & EMS 2 Sites
Enfield FD, EMS, PD, & PW 4 Sites
Wolcott FD, PD, & PW 3 Sites
Middlebury PD 3 Sites
Shelton FD & PD 5 Sites
New Fairfield FD & PD 3 sites
Monroe FD & PD 3 Sites
Woodbury FD & PW
Thomaston FD, PD & PW 3 Sites
Wilton FD, PD & EMS 3 sites
Newtown PD, FD & PW
Westport FD & PD
Darien PD, FD & EMS 2 Sites
Meriden PD 5 Sites
Litchfield County- Dispatch & Command channels 8 Sites
Manchester PD 2 Sites
New Milford PD, FD & PW

And Simulcast Trunking
Stamford 4 Sites
Greenwich 3 Sites
Bristol 3 Sites
Waterbury 3 Sites

99% of the time they simulcast the system...

There IS an option, to split the systems, so they can run two incidents if they had to.

"TRUE" simulcasting, as mentioned above, takes some serious back-end work to make it work 'right'.

Not to get too far off topic but I also believe the Redding PD and DPW have a 3-4 site simulcast system.
