First of all - this is NOT a thread about Baofeng Radios.

It IS about scanning the frequencies which come programmed
as default on the chi-radios.

Has anyone thought of doing this?
Any of you in the big cities can report back?
It would be interesting to know if this is common everywhere.

There has to be a number of non techie-bargain hunters who are
very well likely NOT to bother reprogramming them, or taking the time
to learn how, if they work just fine out of the box.

I just heard mom out weedwacking and keeping
track of her little one on 460.325 MHz.
A frequency allocated only to public safety,
yet it's a Baofeng default.

Scsnning Baofeng

The frequencies are sometimes used in final testing of a radio. Since they come from another country, these may not be used for the same services as in the US. Since they are poor scanners anyway, why use them? If they do interfere with a public safety frequency, they will get the attention of the FCC sooner than later and the fine can be very costly.

My point is not using a Baofeng as a scanner.

It's about putting those test frequencies into your Uniden, GRE - whatever
and see what kind of traffic is heard.
You may be missing traffic right next door or up the street.

Several of the other test freqs are valid US business allocations with a PL tone!

P.S. Those who's scanning hobby only revolves around Emergency services may ignore my posts.

For what its worth, the Term8r has 435.15 and 145.15 as default in their software. As soon as you download from the radio, they are quickly replaced.

They are a poor choice as a scanner if you have a ton of frequencies or need a digital scanner. I bought one (UV-5R2) just to see what all the buzz is about. I only have like 7 frequencies programmed. It received hands down better than my BC125AT handheld or even the HP-1 in my vehicle with an external antenna. It was receiving one of my frequencies just sitting on my passenger seat while my HP-1 did not even break squelch.

Reading comprehension 101.

The thread is not about using a Baofeng as a scanner. It IS about using your scanner to scan frequencies that come pre-programmed into a Baofeng from the factory/distributor.

YOU CAN GO TO THE MIKLOR web page, look at all the original img files that they have collected. all of the frequencies that left the Baofeng factory are in the img files.

Amen.
Boy, did I misname this thread.

Baofeng UV-5R Factory_Test_Frequencies - The RadioReference Wiki
460.325 isn't one of them unless they changed recently.

I did not mention a Baofeng model.
460.325 MHz IS a default freq on the $15 Baofeng BF-888S 5W UHF 16CH
