536 headphone jack and ext speaker

Is it safe to hook up a passive mono ext speaker to the headphone jack of the 536hp.
I don't want to use the rear speaker jack because it creates some noise.

Plugging a mono speaker into the stereo headphone jack will short out half of the audio output.

Best to use a stereo to mono adaptor if you're going to use the headphone jack for a mono speaker. And also, the headphone jack won't drive a non-amplified speaker very well. Headphone jacks have a limited volume output to comply with safety requirements.
