To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Anyone have experience programming a VX-510 out of band?

I am looking for a radio to monitor 33mhz and 46mhz. Is it possible to have a 510 that is 38-50mhz programmed to RX only down to 33mhz?

I know some radios have a work around and some don't (of course then I need to find someone to program it since all I have is Moto stuff)

Is your 510 a low band model? What split? It comes as either a 29.7 to 38mhz or a 38 to 50mhz unit.

If you have the 38 to 50mhz radio, then you should be able to due the 46mhz you want, BUT there is NO WAY no are going the to able to due the 33mhz.

Now if you have the 29.7 to 38mhz, you can due the 33mhz BUT NOT THE 46mhz.

Neither radio will 'spread" that far out of range. Vertex radios will only due about 1.5 mhz out of the normal range.

Thanks, that answers that question.

I have seen some radios that can be pushed out fairly far for RX only, and some that obviously can't be pushed out.
