Michigan police bulk up with military surplus - armored trucks, grenade launchers | MLive.com

Has a searchable database to see what each county has acquired.
MICHIGAN -- Some call it the militarization of police.
Local police chiefs and sheriffs say they're just keeping up with the Joneses.
Whatever the spin, it's clear many West Michigan police agencies have become better equipped to handle both violent incidents and disasters, thanks to the U.S. military.
Since about 1990, police have been able to acquire military surplus through the federal government via the 1033 Program.
But it wasn't until late 2014 that the Pentagon began releasing detailed information about the surplus items going to police agencies across the nation.

Certain segments of America are lunatics. Look at Baltimore today, Ferguson MO a few months ago and the BofA robbery in North Hollywood in the late 90s (for a small sample).

The list goes on.

Good move on the police forces to PREPARE themselves for the unnecessary mayhem that occurs from time to time. Certainly NOT a police state until these vehicles and weaponry are used to patrol the streets on a routine basis, and we certainly have not seen that.

"Extraordinary situations call for extraordinary measures."
You don't want to be facing down bad guys who are armed better than you, and WISHING at that point that you had better body armor, riot shields, an armored vehicle, etc. The police are generally outnumbered, they shouldn't also be outgunned.

Home Grown as well as Imported, as Boston can attest with the on-going Trial
