It depends on...

Your location
Your surroundings
Your interests (PS, MilAir, CB, etc. / analog vs digital vs both)
Your budget
Your needs

Any of all of the above could result in different correct answers to those questions.

I know the topic has a smiley face, but there is no post that is more accurate.

If you have to ask then you shouldn't get one because a hobbyist would have done their research.

I have had scanners from 1972 through today and I ask questions from other users before deciding to buy a new scanner if information is available. Each person will tell you something a little different about each scanner and with that information you can see what will and what will not meet your needs. I was once told a stupid question is a question that is never asked. So what is wrong with being informed in your hobby of choice?

Dave has been on this site from the beginning and he has probably read the same questions in new threads repeatedly asked.

I think it is a clever, honest observation of how newbies ask for advice.

Just remember to be kind as I think the newbie intentions are innocent and not malicious.

Q) Do I truly believe what I just said about intentions?
A) It depends. :D
