Plano Police Enable Selective Encryption

Several Plano Police channels are now encrypted. It appears they re trying to take an open approach leaving the dispatch and some other channels open. Profs to them. As expected, sensitive channels such as CID, NARC are encrypted. For some reason they also encrypted the A-D Sector talk around channels. Not really too big a surprise as sensitive channels while sometimes exciting should be secure. Oddly enough the Plano Radio Shop channel (253) is also encrypted so no more listening to them on their way home.

The Colony PD uses switchable encryption on the primary channel but you you don't hear it too often.

Great.....Gave up the "Hobby" of video games and home theater to keep my brain from rotting but looks like it will get where we cant monitor anything worth while......Makes me sad....

In addition to their Dispatch channel, I've logged TCPD Ops 1, TCPD Ops 2, and TC AnCon as partial encryption.

Wylie PD has a few too.. WPD Ops 1, WPD Ops 2 and WPD Unknown(id 814).

Had a feeling this was coming. They had been testing the encryption a lot on the radio tech channel in the past week. Sucks that the talkaround channels are encrypted as well. Hopefully, they will leave dispatch clear.

I was wondering why I wasn't hearing much from Plano PD. Looks like this hobby has finally come to an end for me unless I move. Even then it's just a matter of time before it's all encrypted.

Any updates on Plano going with more encryption? Are any other PDs on the PAWM system doing this as well?

I had thought about getting a new Phase II scanner, but if my area is doing this Im not sure I want to waste the time or money anymore.

Although rare, I have seen a couple of Wylie PD channels key up encrypted. Everything else is covered in the DB, and what I posted above.

I have not yet seen a Phase II transmission...

Plano will begin Phase 2 operation by the end of the year. Not all talk groups and not all the time. The PAWM system will operate in dynamic dual mode. A talk group may be phase 2 or phase 1 depending on who is registered on the talk group.

Most of the Encrypted talkgroups are now Phase II, as well. The non-encrypted ones are still Phase I.

Note: If you're running UniTrunker and the Phase II groups indicate 700 MHz then delete your band plans and let it repopulate as the original band plan has changed. All activity is on the 800 MHz channels.

Ok, 253 Plano radio shop chan 2. I'm positive of it being "Channel 2" though.

2042 is also related to the shop/techs.. just never heard a positive id.

This is what Brownsville P.D.did before they went full Encryption and then that all she wrote,thats why i wont waste 300 to 500 dollars on a scanner any more.......

Don't worry, PAWM will never go 'fully encrypted' but we will go fully phase 2 in the near future.
