Now that our county has went to P25 phase 2. I need to find a use for my 106 &197, I would like to setup
search limits for various bands. I know some bands are already programmed in from the factory but I want
to add some different search limits. I do all my programming by hand and would like to know if the search limits could be programmed into one of the 20 banks?

Yes, the manual says you can only do one limit search, sometimes others have found a way to do things
not in the original manual. Like do more than one limit search at a time.

Please explain how to do that.

From my PSR-500 manual (and likely something similar in your PRO-106 manual):

Limit Search Object (LMIT)

A Limit Search Object (LMIT) is a search object that stores the
parameters necessary for the radio to search each frequency
within a lower and an upper limit for activity. A LMIT object can be
used for standalone searching – the radio just searches and
stops when activity is detected on a frequency, or for searching
that is performed while the radio is scanning. The radio treats
LMIT objects just like any other Scannable Object when in Scan
Mode. If you create a LMIT object, assign it to a Scan List and
press the SCAN key, the radio will check for activity on all the
Scannable Objects – TGRP objects, CONV objects, and even
LMIT objects. An example of when this might be handy would be
when you want to scan for activity on a collection of TGRP and
CONV objects, then run through a range of frequencies to look
for activity there, such as the entire 2 meter amateur radio band
or the entire VHF marine radio band. When used in Scan Mode,
this capability is best suited for small ranges of frequencies that
contain more frequencies than practical to program as individual
channels. Any size range can be used, but larger ranges that
take more time to search will increase the chances of missed
activity on other object types.

It's possible to create multiple Search Limit Objects, placing each in a scan list—your scanner does not use "banks"—like any other scannable object.

For 'hand' programing either the Pro 106 or 197 to do multiple 'limit' searches, just set the default scan list to the scan list you want the search in. Then set up a limit search the usual way. After that press the f3 soft key (store). Repeat as desired. When scanning the unit will make one pass through each limit search in active scan lists. Service searches can be store the same way. I put all searches in a separate scan list so I can skip searching when desired as the searches can take a while missing other traffic.

Hope this helps
