Hey guys with all the fires going on can we get more ODF and forestry fire feeds up? This going to be a bad fire season so every feed that is up will help residents know if they need to evacuate then waiting for a 911 telling them to leave when its to late!

Thankfully, ODF is analog and VHF, meaning that nearly anyone with a cheap scanner can monitor their communications. IMHO, I wouldn't want to rely on someone else's internet feed if I was living in a wildland-urban interface and trying to stay on top of the latest activity. Too many variables.

For those living in a wildland-urban interface areas, be sure and sign up for your Counties' Emergency Notification System, if they offer it. Additionally, can be used for "all hazard" incidents any time of the year.I know it was used during the 36 Pit fire last year as an additional means of evacuation notification. Also the Sheriffs office made notifications for the various levels of evacuation in person.

ODF will dispatch on their local repeaters but most of the time they will use RED or WHITE on the fire. That was how it was going with the 2 WEYCO choppers on the MT Tom fire the other day and the only thing pulling the traffic in here was the ICOM 910H on the Comet GP9.

Aside from a good 2 meter ham radio such as the above Icom used as a high end dedicated receiver, another option is A 50 dollar e-bay DB222 Folded dipole array, 50 dollars of 75 foot 1/2 e-bay hardline and a 85 dollar MaCom/GE NB COMPLIANT Orion VHF mobile radio.

The Orion mobilehas several banks of 64 channels each and when the channels are all filled with forestry and fire freqs this makes an extremely effective dedicated setup for pulling in freqs out beyond 150 miles.

With Windows programming software, the Orions excellent pre-amp, dual priority front panel re-programmable scan and multi channel scan lockout this make for an unbeatable analog scanner plus an excellent 2 meter ham base or mobile radio.
