I have done nothing but praise the BCD436 and BCD536 because they fixed all of my reception issues I have had with all of the other digital scanners on the market of which I have had every single one. I run my BCD536HP in the car and the reception is fantastic but that is where the fun ends. Things have been going great for over a year on my 2 hour commute back and forth to work. All of a sudden I started getting the prompt to set the time and I went through the trouble of taking the scanner out of my car and in the house and letting it scan plugged in and turned on for the entire weekend to let the RTC battery charge. Well Monday morning I put it back in the car and guess what 5 days in the car and the prompt came back to set the time . Boy what a pain that was because I turned on the scanner after I already pulled out of the driveway. I looked down and the scanner wasn't scanner... So I did the firmware update and now every time I start the car the scanner reboots and about every three times that I turn the scanner off and back on when I get to work or home it locks up during boot up and the screen is frozen even of I turn it off and I have to pull the power to get it to come back. I have reloaded the SD card with no change. I went back to the old firmware and it hasn't locked up since so it's something with the new firmware so yes I'm ready for a real fix PLEASE. I want to know who the heck came up with this RTC battery idea for charging because the HomePatrols don't have this issue but they also don't have the simulcast decode that the x36 scanners have. I'm sticking with the x36HP scanners and hoping for a fix soon so we can all move on and enjoy the hobby.

Thank you,
Mike

Ask for a solution to the screen dimming problem too while you are at it. Maybe you will get a response of any kind. I can't.

I have not yet had the light dimming issue so I'm lucky with that one so far.

I don't think will ever get a comment from Uniden on the dimming problem. They will most likely say it's the expected life expectancy for the LED there using and some will be effected more than others based on amount of usage. Example: if you run your scanner 24/7 compared to the casual user. Too admit there is a problem would effect all the 436/536. I think there most like not going to charge anyone for repair if they send in there scanner for light dimming issues. I have not heard of anyone being charged. Only problem is you would have to send your scanners in from time to time to get fixed.

... I have used my x36's very little if not at all due to poor p-25 sound quality in the systems I monitor and my displays are so dim I can't see them anymore (I would use the 536 for conventional scanning if I could read the displays)... UPMAN... address the issue!!!... I can't sell these pieces of crap as I would not "stick" anyone with these units... the clock issue I can live with, not being able to understand the transmissions I hear or being able to see what they are is a consumer crime... to those who have had none of these problems you are very, very lucky but spending $1000 should not involve luck unless you are in a casino... Bob...

Bob, if your display is that bad how come you haven't sent it in for repair? This will give uniden a chance to investigate the problem and get your display working again, at least for the time being until it dies again.

My 436hp's clock issue pisses me off most days. I can leave the radio on until the batteries die, swap in a new set of batteries, and the clock needs to be reset again. Sure I could plug it in while in my truck, but the USB power hasn't worked since two weeks after I got the radio. If I want to reprogram anything, I have to remove the micro-SD card.

I had called half a dozen times seeking assistance on getting it repaired, no one provided any real solution other than on three separate occasions being told to just place the micro-SD in a card reader.

I love the 346xt, I love the 396xt, I love the 996xt ... I plan to add a 996P2 and wish there was a 396P2 ... but the 436hp is a great radio on paper in my world. I use my scanners for work and I like them to work. When it comes to monitoring the local P25 PD-FD on Phase 1, or the state police on a P25 SmartNet, the 396xt and 996xt are far superior to the 436hp. It is very disappointing.

Just plunked down the cash for a 996P2 this morning. If it works as everyone's been saying, I plan on dumping my 536HP and buying another 996P2.

... the reason I have not sent them in for the display repair is that those who have sent them in had the problem return very shortly... they can't fix it.................. hey Dan... let me know how the 996p2 does on the new Bucks 700 system... the 1095 works great in the car but I'm thinking about getting a second one for home or a 996p2... thanks... Bob...

Clock

I said it before and again. The clock is a very minor part of the Radio. if the rest of it is working fine then you have no issue. The last thing you would do if you ever did was look at the clock. You would look at the station then the area then the department. STOP being so Nit Picking the Clock, you know as well as I do Upman nor Uniden is going to read all the post they have better thing to do, like fixing other REAL issues with the product.
Tell you what, send me the radio and I will buy it from you for $300.00

His 536 may be out of warranty like mine is now, so we have to pay for the repair if sent in for repair now. I am waiting to see if Uniden does the right thing and acknowledge the problem and offers an extended warranty on these garbage scanners.

If Uniden had a permanent fix, they would be advertising it to stop all this negative feedback. The fact they won't even acknowledge there is a problem is troublesome.

The LED issues is not rocket science. Either the LEDs are garbage, or they are being overdriven causing the dimming over time.

It really appears Uniden has abandoned x36HP users. They have our money already, and are probably working in the next line of scanners due out next year so there is no time to support the x36HP. Uniden has proven this by coming out with 3 new scanners while ignoring their "flagship" scanners.

It was only AFTER the 3 new scanners came out did Uniden come up with the wifi fix. Coincidence? Don't think so. I don't buy their "the wifi dongle firmware is buggy" and that's why the over year delay.

The clock is a major part of the overall scanner and features. Without the clock, there is no time stamp on recordings. Without the clock, the replay feature doesn't work.

Both these features, recording and instant replay, rely on the RTC. These features are used my many users and is a major selling point on the x36HP's.

So it's not that we use the x36HP's as a simple clock, but it's needed for many features that no longer work properly. The RTC is a REAL issue!

Bob, I will certainly advise, as there are several threads with talk on the 996P2 and 536HP. I personally wouldn't have bought another Uniden product, but I use the majority of my radios for private feeds, and the 536 and 996P2 are the only two that have an actual on/off switch as opposed to a push-button. If the power goes out, the 1095, 1080 etc have to be turned back on manually. I figured if the P2 is built on the same solid platform as the XT series I should be pretty safe as far as issues go. Knock on wood

Yes, I know. I'm hoping it's literally a 996XT with a few swapped ICs that allow for the phase 2 decoding...

When the x36 scanners were announced their specs and features were the bomb!. To me these scanners were to revolutionize scanning as we know it. As many have said the P25 performance has been excellent on their systems where as other scanners can't cut it. Uniden had the chance to make a sweet scanner, but all we are hearing is all the problems they have and features that have not been activated that were advertised the scanner would do.

I only own one Uniden scanner a BC996XT that I got for under $80 at a closing Radio Shack. When I set it up I was really impressed as I don't use scanners but real Motorola radios to monitor as the simulcast issues are terrible at my location. The 996XT is doing a pretty good job of decoding and I like some of the features that it does. That's why this board is great, other users share their experience and all of that feedback says wait, don't buy until the bugs are fixed. I don't understand where the failure occurred in getting the product out quickly and not getting the bugs out or enabling features it should be capable of.

As they say, hopefully Uniden will get their s**t together and fix the problems and not try to take more money from customers to have things fixed. I hope they do soon cause the 536 is one nice looking scanner for the shack.

If you want answers. File a class action lawsuit. Let them answer to a judge. They will never answer to just customers. They don't have to so why would they? Don't let them walk on you. Take em to court. All of you.. I'd file my own case if I had one of those faulty products. Nobody does it, so uniden gets off scott free and will just keep doing what they are doing. Tolerance leads to acceptance, acceptance leads to something becoming the normal thing to do.. Do you want faulty scanners to be the norm..? Well, that's what will happen if nobody stands up to something like this.

It was the lawsuit that led to the rushed analyze feature which may explain why it isn't what many people expected it to be. (thanks, sue-happy hobbyists)

So, if you want a half-donkeyed solution, file the lawsuit. If you want to get a complete solution, let Uniden do their job.
