Ok!

Here is what I was able to come up with.

WPNT-583

This is licensed to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety

The license states that it is a statewide mobile only frequency used for radio maintenance.

They maybe using it for something else as well.

This call sign showed several other frequencies as well.

Hope this helps

Looks like handhelds only, but from a mountain top you could hear them for miles. may be used by tower crews

That is right

On the mountain tops you get all sorts of interesting traffic.

I remember one time working for a private ambulance service and doing a transport to Cannon Hospital in

Newland.

I picked up the mike on the radio and checked out and they heard me like I was right next door.

Plus considering that the portables they use are Low Band and six watts output power they were never

effected by the narrowband requirements that forced VHF and UHF equipment to drop back on the power

output.

Me personally I like Low Band it may have faults but it is still a good radio system.

Just a comment
