Larry, you're probably referring to 851.325 and 853.3375, license WQAM394. Those are licensed to the State rather than to Newberry, so I would be surprised if either of those frequencies were used by a municipality on a full-time basis. Typically these conventional repeaters licensed by the state are used for the state wireless data network for MDT systems. Someone would have to monitor them to see if they're carrying voice or data. I have had 851.325 programmed for Newberry for quite a while and never hear anything on it when I pass through the area every once in a while.

This inquiry prompted me to look through licenses for Newberry County. It seems that they have licensed some new frequencies for repeaters in the last few years that are probably worth checking for activity. Anyone within monitoring range of Newberry, please report what you hear, if anything.

City of Newberry - 460.6125 under KFO749.
Newberry Co SO - 453.3375, 453.4875, and 453.6875 under WPBI876.
Newberry Co FD - 154.9725, 155.925 and 155.7825 under WQOT583.
Newberry Co EMS - 151.025, 151.085, 156.180 and 156.225 under WQOX936
Newberry Co EMD - 460.3625 under KXA475.
Newberry Co Jail - 460.500 under WQOJ862.

No worries, Larry. Just trying to be helpful. Put some of those fancy antennas to work on some of these "new" Newberry frequencies. Maybe one of these nice early morning band openings will help us ID if any of these frequencies are in use.

I'm pretty skeptical about the state 800MHz conventional repeaters being used for voice, but you never know. It's easy to confuse MDT data with P25 encryption.
