Colorado State Patrol Investigates Fatal Crash on I-25 in Weld County
On July, 25th, 2015, at approximately 6:25AM the Colorado State Patrol responded to Interstate 25 at milepost 235 for reports of a fatal crash. Upon arrival is was found that a 2007 Silver Kia Rio was traveling the wrong direction on Interstate 25 when it struck a 1994 Toyota Tacoma truck, which was traveling northbound. The driver of the Kia, a 18 year old female, was pronounced dead at the scene. Drugs and alcohol are being investigated as contributing factors. The driver of the Toyota, 32 year old Francisco Garcia of Thornton sustained minor injuries. The passenger in the Toyota, 26 year old Andres Garcia of Thornton sustained minor injuries. After the initial head on impact, a 2006 Freightliner box truck driven by 37 year old Obdulio Ramos of Westminster and a 2006 Ford Escape driven by 37 year old William Rivas of Hudson, were involved in subsequent impacts resulting in no further injuries. The identification of the deceased driver will not be released until the family members can be notified.
The Colorado State Patrol would like the individual that took video of the crash to contact Trooper Dusty Kraft by calling CSP dispatch at (303) 239-4501. That person was released from the scene prior to CSP’s arrival and we would like to speak with them in an attempt to determine more facts. If there were other witnesses that observed the Kia as it traveled the wrong direction or where it entered the interstate please call Trooper Dusty Kraft by calling CSP dispatch at (303) 239-4501. This crash is a good reminder of the public’s willingness to help and the Colorado State Patrol thanks those individuals who stopped to assist. While thanking you, we would like to remind anybody involved in a crash or witnessing a crash to make your safety paramount before stopping and getting out of your vehicle. Move to a safe location and look before entering a crash scene.
