• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Has anyone purchased or used the Batteries from WaveBand Communications for the P7100/5100/700P series radios? Anyone have any opinion on the quality of them?

I know all those "type" batteries should be manufactured and "technically" perform the same, but in the real world that isn't always the case.

When it mentions in the description of these types of batteries:

"Guaranteed to maintain at least
80% of rated capacity for 18 months."

Does that mean that the battery will hold a charge of 80% of it's full rated capacity for 18 months after sitting around without use or does it mean the battery is capable of still being able to be charged to 80% of it's full rated capacity during normal cycling of it after 18 months of use?

DO NOT ASK ME FOR HELP PROGRAMMING YOUR RADIO. NO.
It means that 18 months from now, the battery will still be able to hold 80 percent of its rated charge capacity.

It does NOT mean that if you charge the battery today, it will still be fully charged or even at 80 percent 18 months from now.

Batteries self discharge over time. It's a fact of life.

You guys are complicating this more than you need to. It means that if you fully charge the battery today and then put it up on a shelf without using it, it will still retain 80% of it's charge after 18 months of storage. You will be able to recharge the battery to 100% of it's rated capacity. Another way of stating it would be that the battery will only loose 20% of it's charge after 18 months of storage.

I know some Nickel hydride based single cells are LSD and they can retain 80-90% of there rated capacity even after 5 years of sitting. I was just curious if these "packs" used lithium cells that had a lower self discharge rate than normal.

That's what I was hoping would be the case, but opinions obviously differ on what it means. I probably should contact them and ask.
