Anyone own an external speaker that will connect to the VX-7R. A regular earphone turns on the mic connection. What is needed to connect a earphone to this radio? Thanks Ron

Any of the yaesu / vertex accessories with the straight three ring connector should work. Looks just like a regular 2 ring headphone jack but with one extra ring. As n8iaa said pryme makes plenty as do many other companies.

Ron,

You need the CT-91 adaptor. It has the longer length plug with screw threads that fit the radio's connector. Other TRRS usually don't work because they don't plug in deep enough to make proper connections or are not wired correctly.

You might find that you will have to use a powered speaker depending on your noise environment.

+1 on needing the adapter with screw threads.

I have used speaker mics labeled: Yaesu, Pryme and with nothing on them, all probably made in the same facility (and varying prices) with my VX-7R. Great radio, finally had to get a new battery for it after 11 years.
