AUG 28,29,30.

Looks like a decent lineup, a bit short on jets but plenty of warbirds.

Jet wise, we have the Angels, F-16 demo team and a E-A6 Prowler that will be on static, but may catch it in the air FRI or leaving SUN.

Anything to do with the show post here. I plan on going all 3 days, will likely be somewhere on Ecorse. Might go THUR is the Blues are practicing.
Finding a decent spot at Willow Run with Angles flying can be, and is, very difficult.

Blue Angels and bombers highlight Thunder Over Michigan Air Show lineup | MLive.com

The Ypsilanti area will transform into "Bombertown, USA" this weekend as the Thunder Over Michigan Air Show returns to the Willow Run Airport.
The annual show is one of the largest gatherings of large and rare aircraft in the country and will also include a World War II air and land battle reenactment.
This year's show is headlined by United States Armed Forces fighter jets. The United States Air Force F-16 Flying Falcon will be flying a demonstration and then the U.S. Navy Blue Angels will show off their world-renowned precision flight routine.

Nice takeoff today - Don't know how to embed, heres a link

http://vid4.photobucket.com/albums/y113/Xraywolf/222/IMG_0935.mp4

Using Willows myriad of runways scheme, they did something I've never seen before, all 6 in the air at once.

Didn't follow freqs, will try tomorrow. Lots of the usual chatter.
5 took off around noon and did their markings, landed around 1. All 6 took off again around 3 and did a near full show with a few variations that was obvious won't be part of the show. Likely more of the same tomorrow, I like the practices better than the shows. Cops were tough on Ecorse, difficult to find a decent off base spot, but if you see the video, you'll see that I found one - I thought for sure I'd be booted from there.

Outside of warbirds, not much of a military presence.
E-6B was supposed to be there but cancelled. A couple F-16's from Shaw [EC Demo] flew in around 6. A KC-135 from Selfridge, a couple of Hueys and thats about it for military.

Future reference; show started Friday at 1:30, Fat albert started at 3:00.

Airboss 118.175

Active frequencies 123.150, F16 Demo 237.800, 384.550, The usual Blues ones listed above plus 248.250 quite active.

They did the high show today and was one the best ones I had seen lasted I don't know exactly but had to be a good half hour.

I heard the leader call the high show about a minute into the air, soon thereafter some low hanging clouds moved in and they punched through quite a bit.
Good show, they seemed to do more 6 ship formations than usual, don't know if that will carry over to the actual shows or not.

248.250 doesn't appear to be in memory, there was another poster there from OH who monitors this thread maybe he can enlighten.

This was on Tyler rd right across from the runway, I was shocked I could get such a spot.
Downside was, while the takeoffs and landings were jaw dropping, the show line was a little distance away, they didn't fly the show off the main runway ,,, Else I wouldn't have been there I reckon.

Thunder Over Michigan

After the Saturday show, there an almost continuous stream of chatter on the Blue Angels 284.25 and 275.35. None of it show talk or team related. Most of it wasn't even ham "rag chewing" style, just offhand and stupid comments about nothing particular.

Just wanted to say thanks to the folks in this thread for taking the time to share frequencies for the show. I programmed my scanner before going to the show on Saturday, and it was a lot of fun being able to listen to the F16 and Angels pilots, as well as the Air Boss.

Thanks again!

I am the guy from Ohio that was at the Tyler road spot at the south end of RWYs 05/23. Kind of a bizarre coincidence to pull in the field, park the car, and run right in to X-RAY, considering how many different places you can watch an airshow.

Thanks to Ronaldski for the frequencies. I programmed them in before leaving home, and it was nice to have it all set up to listen in right when I got there without having to scan for them.

Regarding the question about what freqs the Blues used, I was only at the Sunday show, but this is what it seemed like to me. The solos (5/6) were on 237.8. The diamond was on 284.25. Then 275.35 seemed to have both the solos and the diamond. I assume that it is so they have one good mutual freq so that the solos and diamond can know what each group is doing. I think it also provides a common freq for when they all join up and fly the delta formations with all 6 of them.

This weekend is the Cleveland Airshow. Thunderbirds, Super Hornet from NAS Oceana, and a USMC Harrier. I plan on going 3 of the 4 days counting practice day!

That was a great spot, not often you can get end of the runway access with a premium jet act flying.

Looks like no Angels there next year, hopefully they can snag the Tbirds. I'm there for the jets, I like the warbirds but I love the jets !
