Been silent for many months, but the ever increasing
over-moderation of the RR forums has prompted this comment.
Something had definitely changed in a big big way and not for the better.

It seems that many times, moderators, and particularly one relatively new,
seem to "butt in" constantly to perfectly rousing, enjoyable threads,
in which all of the participants are completely civil.

The participants should direct the thread except in case of
major rules violations IMHO.

Please, please moderate conservatively.
We love 'ya, but we don't want to hear from you constantly.
I think we're a pretty good group here
with very occasional exceptions.

The other thing is the ridiculous moving around of threads.
In the 13 years I've been here, I've never had so many
links lead nowhere and not been able to find threads
that were there.

News and announcements area is beyond confusing quite often.

As an example, an FCC national news story out of Washington, DC
(where else) was moved to the local District of Columbia
forum. A news release from from a manufacturer was placed
in the local forum for the state that the manufacturer was in.

Please, no more "musical threads".

Again, please, please moderate conservatively.

Please return to sanity in moderation.

Note: I'm not soliciting for any comments on this thread.
This is FYI for the mgmt team really.
Food for thought for them.

Thank you for listening.

Mike, can you provide some examples of over moderation and links that lead nowhere either privately or in this thread? I'd like to investigate what you perceive as over moderation.

The moving of threads from the Community Announcements and News forum was done to ease up on the amount of work that the Moderators have to do since typically, somebody reposts the thread in the local, regional forum which leads to one of the threads being locked. We had many complaints from members who felt the Announcement or News Story belonged in the Regional forum only. For the time being, we'll continue this policy as it seems to work.

The forums are only one part of this website, right?

I hear there is a pretty good database on it as well. ;)

I am usually amused by threads like these because *usually* the person creating the thread has had significant moderation due to constant violation of the site rules and TOS.

But you haven't ever even received a warning, let alone an infraction.

If this is all about the Community Announcements and News forum, Mike already touched on that, but mostly what we do is combat the ridiculous onslaught of spam, that you probably haven't seen in awhile ;)
