Hi folks,
I'll be backpacking fairly close to the Mt Adams area in a few days. Anyone have any active fire frequencies for the Cougar Creek Fire there? I'd like to take my scanner into the backcountry with me and kind of keep an ear on things.
Thanks for the help!

IF you are that close, just put it into Scan from 162-174 Mhz

That is not the way the forums function.

I've put in the request to RETURN the function to the state of the Fire as well as the Mountain you are asking about.

This thread actually started in the Washington Forum, but didn't draw any useful information, so I asked that it be moved here.

It used to be easy. Google 'Fire Name' + ICS-205.
They're now deep secrets for some unknown reason.

Anyway...

The fire is burning on Yakima Nation, Washington State Department of Natural Resources
and US Forest Service lands on the south and west flanks of Mt Adams.

Search for and note each of those agency's freqs for that area.

Also...

A freq or two are posted in most, if not all FAA Notice to Airmen (NOTAM)
that are issued on big fires.

For the Cougar Creek Fire -
NOTAM Text
132.225 MHz AM is listed.

Keep an ear there, and you may hear other freqs mentioned.

Dont forget :
Natl Incident Radio Support Cache / NIFC
https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?aid=7769

Google "2014 ODF Aviation Procedures Manual.pdf"
Open it.
On page 55 of this doc is a map of A/A & A/G freqs.
Those freqs are NOT exclusive to ODF.
Be SURE to include them in your scanning.

There's a start.

We'll be anxious to see if you find anything new.

Have a great time and be safe!

as well as the Mountain you are asking about.

I've put in a request that it be LOCKED permanently into the Oregon forum.
The man likely wouldn't have got an answer elsewhere.
Go eat a pot of beans.

Gentlemen, the OP requested the thread be moved since the location was close to Washington.

It was moved by myself with an expiring redirect so it would be visible in both forums for a short period.

The thread will stay in this forum. Anybody wishing to discuss this further can email me since any further discussion would be off-topic.

You've probably already seen this in your web travels, but here's a link to the NWCC map. If you zoom in far enough, you can see the fire boundaries:

NWCC :: Home

As of yesterday morning's update, the fire was at 29,000 acres and only 15% contained. Have a fun (and safe) trip! Might be a little smoky, though.

S'more local, on topic stuff:

Yakima Nation 158.955 (R)
Yakima Nation Tribal Police 159.1725 (R)
(Repeaters cover the mountain)

-and-

You may hear something useful on the local ham repeater
WA7SAR on King Mtn in the Trout Lake area : 147.08 MHz 123.0 PL

If Yakima SAR is involved in any way,
they'll show up on 7.08
