Guys,

Have a friend in Pt. Beach that is getting a weird mix of signals coming through on OCPS-4. He has a 796D, so I'm pretty sure that it's not an image coming through.

I've linked to the sound he provided me on my own server. The main sound really sounds like DMR to me, and there can clearly be heard analog audio in the background with MDC & some QCII paging as well.

He's using an indoor antenna, so I highly doubt it's front-end overload.

UPDATE - I patched the output audio from my media player into DSD+ & got this:

Mixing

Has mixing been considered with the IF? Not sure what it is for the 996 but 476.4875-21.6=454.8875.

I would search around that center freq when the DMR mixes in.

Why not enable pl dpl.

Good question about the IF mixing. Lots of DMR these days on the lower-half of the 450's. I'll ask him why he wasn't using PL/DPL. Maybe he was doing some band-searching to kill some time & came across it (?).

I'm driving myself nuts right now trying to get DSD+ to actually play the audio file. I converted it to the proper WAV format, but it keeps flying through it in 10 seconds & not broadcasting any audio. Using this:
DSDPlus.exe -fr -v4 ? vox.wav

Definitely sounds like intermod or some kind of mixing to me. You can hear another voice in there.

If you are trying to decode voice with that signal that may be unlikely. It sounds like polling or similar. No voice traffic on that at all IMHO. IT sounds to me that it all has the same amplitude if you will. DMR voice traffic does not sound like that.

Sounds like a complex mixing product. The paging frequency and the DMR frequency are part of it, but sounds like there may be another in the mix.

Well, it's not my friend's scanner as the cause - I am working in Neptune today & just heard the same DMR+analog mix on my Icom ID-880 mobile.

Someone seems to have a transmitter that's sending out spurious signals causing that mix. I need a few others here that actually live in the county to monitor OCPS-4 in CSQ to doubly corroborate this...

Minor update - heading back up the GSP from the service call, I heard the 'mix' again for a good 2 seconds between MM 107 & 108 northbound, and it pinned the S-meter on my mobile radio. This is looking more like the offending signal is in southern Monmouth County...
