I have been keeping my eye out on any radio-based technical job around here since I moved - unemployment is slowly making me reach cabin-fever levels. Also been applying to Dispatch jobs left and right.

With my background in electronics, I have been trying to keep an eye out for any shop in the area hiring that does radio sales/service, light/equipment installs, etc. Any help would be appreciated!

You probably should look for a headhunter in Columbia, one that charges the fees to the employer. You should never have to pay a fee. Think about diversifying like into industrial maintenance or I&E instrumentation and electronics. These pay real well, but you may have to work shifts.

Here is a job search engine I used many times: http://www.linkup.com/

Good Luck!

Thanks for the link! As former military I was trying to use Bradley Morris and Orion International but they both were trying to place me in jobs far away from SC... And I JUST moved here so my wife and I can be closer to family and her kid be closer to her whole life she was used to.

I used to work on instrumentation and weapons systems with a smattering of environmental control systems - so Comms was my "new field" to dive into. I can only hope something will pop up even a few years from now.

Just got to see them... thanks for the heads up! I saw that FBI listing as well and was pretty bummed about it. I called their office and was told I couldn't apply until my military contract ended since it would be considered "conflict of interest"... so I sat on the link and it expired before I got out... oh well.

I DID see though, on the SCHEART site, that the state has an application cycle open (as of yesterday) for two Field Engineers for ETV. I put in for it - but I've had an application in to SLED for over a month now with no update... so I won't hold my breath.

Canon Solutions called today - not quite RF Engineering or related to the field, but looks like a decent salary for a senior field technician job.

The only things i can think of is like you already said SC ETV, but also look at the other stations WLTX, WIS, WACH, etc etc as they may be hiring, maybe even contact them directly.

Public Safety Communications for our area is really only Palmetto 800 in Harbison and Communications Specialist on broad river.

I'm sure there are others but i can't think of any right off.
