• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Downgraded an M7100ip from RPM but it seems the default tracking data that was supplied with R17 is way off (especially where power settings are concerned). Hopefully looking to find someone with an R17 or earlier tracking file (or even a couple screenshots of the tracking info) out of a properly aligned VHF M7100ip that I can use as a baseline/reference for re-alignment.

Thanks

Each radio is going to be unique what works for one might be totally different for another... time to break out the service monitor.

Indeed. First step when touching any Harris radio should be to backup the tracking and feature data.

There is a service monitor involved. Unfortunately original tracking data was not available do to lack of RPM which is why default was used.

Harris will usually list in their Maintenance manual an average reference point to start with in order shorten the process of plugging in the radio programming tracking data, unplugging radio, testing, plugging in radio, programming, unplugging, testing, plugging in radio.... Keep in mind, data such as the deviation will go from 0-12000+, but without a reference point I'm stuck starting at 0 or some other arbitrary number and working my way up and testing a long the way. A lot quicker with an average reference point to start with.

I'm quite obviously not looking to plug in someones random tracking data and using that from the get go.

DO NOT ASK ME FOR HELP PROGRAMMING YOUR RADIO. NO.
Ericsson/GE's original system of NON-real-time alignment sucked when they first came out with it,
and it's absolutely not one bit better now.

They stole the show as far as programming software is concerned, now why don't they improve radio maintenance tools to at least offer real time alignment?

I still want to know why I have some P7100s that do NOT respond to the oscillator warp function. One is off frequency by about 1800 Hz and no way to adjust it that I ever found. And I've changed its master reference oscillator. Didn't change the error.

Yeah its pretty ridiculous. I could pretty much align a whole Moto unit in the time it takes to test-hook up-program-unhook-test-hook up-program-unhook-so on one darn data point on these. One of the reasons the rest of the fleet save for this radio and a few odd Orions is Motorola. That being said, can't beat the 7100 for a cost effective dual radio single head set up.
