Have an astatic 104 desktop mic that I received with my radio. It worked fine except it would intermediately turn on when just moving it around. I took it apart and found lots of wires hanging loose. If someone would like to help get it back together let me know. I have no problem paying to have it back to original working condition. Thanks, Alan KEØFIX(funny I need help "FIX"ing my mic, lol)

I assume you're talking about a D104? Are you saying that there are LOOSE (unconnected) wires floating around inside? I would hope not! Guess there must not be if it works most of the time. There are, however, a number of wires of different colors. Let me know more about what you see if you think you do see something amiss.

I have the schematic for the D104 here. Should be five wires and shield coming in on the cord (black, blue, red, yellow, white) and three off the pot (violet, orange, blue), a pair up to the mic socket (yellow and green), and the black/red pair off the battery. Sound right?

Sounds right although it's not in front of me. And, yea a few wires are just not connected. I can post a few pics later today.

That would be helpful. Wires shouldn't be disconnected inside the unit. If one of the normally open or closed wires isn't needed on the PTT, it should just be dealt with at the connector.

Also, please advise the manufacturer and model of your rig so we can put together the right wires for that in advance.

Kenwood TS-2000 is the radio. Here are some pics, as you can see it's pretty cobbled up.

Originally I was just going to re solder the connector side that's why it is cut, but after looking further inside the mic side I stopped.

Good grief, what a sorry mess. I got the feeling that it was working, but that once in a while, it would key down without you touching the switch. It's a lot worse than that.

Still, as long as the electronics aren't fried and the switch can be cleaned up, a repair won't be all that bad. Even the electronics are easy -- just a couple of easy-to-sub NPN transistors and a few passive bits.

I'm clear up in Longmont, and only usually travel to the border of Aurora/Denver down around Mississippi. Just click on my name on this post to use the PM service, and drop me a line with an address and we'll try to come up with some sort of schedule.
