Pensacola' s system (Police and Fire) and Some of Santa Rosa's (Fire and EMS at least) are being added to Escambia's Motorola P25 DIGITAL system. Switch over is within months. Will PPD encrypt? More than likely.
Escambia is adding more Tac channels as well.
If you haven't already, time to research digital scanners, or get out,
Me, I think I'm getting out of it.

Where did you hear that Pensacola City is going digital?

Santa Rosa county is moving to a new 700/800 MHz Motorola digital trunked system in the near future and will be using Escambia counties Motorola computer network. From the talk of local public safety officials, Santa Rosa Sheriff will be encrypted, but Fire and EMS will not.

I also haven't seen any new FCC frequencies for Escambia county Sheriffs office, so I'm not sure about the new Tac channels.

from a tech working on the project.
City approved it March 9th 2015 (you can find the board minutes).
It will be the existing frequencies and trunk system, just digital.

as for the TAC channels those are for Fire/EMS, I think they are just reassigning some existing frequencies.
Don't know which ones yet except EMS Admin may be TAC 4.
Trying to encourage more 1 to 1 traffic between agency units.
Including Patching between Santa Rosa after this.

the project is doing the Santa Rosa and Pensacola stuff at the same time, completion of each of course depends on hands on each field unit. They have been doing the tower stuff for about a month now.

Sad to see all the local agencies going to encryption. At least Okaloosa SO or Bay County haven't drank the Motorola KooAid. I sure would like to know what their telling the agencies. I know my neighbor is a SRSO deputy and we talked about it and let's just say Smart Phone Scannner apps and local news outlets came up several times.

? Bay County has been on a Motorola system for many years.

It'll go P25 too, sooner or later unfortunately.

I live in the Bay County area and the system works good hardly any trouble. I do believe they will go to a digital system down the road don't know when will that happen.

So will Escambia County Florida dump the 460 MHz Frequencies and switch to 700 and 800 MHz ?? Or will there be a patch made to the new system ??

All patches, Escambia is not changing any frequencies, just adding more TAC Channels (460.XXX) to Patch between.
When I get the new Tac numbers I will post them.

If your into fire and EMS calls than yes. Escambia Sheriff is already encrypted and Im not sure if Pensacola Police will follow. Santa Rosa Sheriff said they are encrypting.

Jackson, Washington County are that DMR crap now

So far only 2 FD vhf/uhf are in the clear

Washington FD 453.52500 I hear them on/off when bands are open.
Jackson FD 155.14500 I hear them on/off when bands are open.

The rest is DMR and no Encryption on both Counties.

There up to 6 sites now. The latest is located in Pensacola. Here is the layout with a 15 mile radius.

here are the rest of the new Tac Channels

For Escambia County (Fire mostly but EMS can use them too.)
and they will be available to Santa Rosa as soon as they go digital.

TAC 5 453.925 Central (was EMS Admin)
TAC 6 453.4375 Avalon (Santa Rosa County)
TAC 7 453.5125 Pensacola Beach

These are not in the radios yet. by next year they should be.

You folks that bought a digital scanner when Escambia went P25, what do you recommend?

I suggest the 996p2 or the Home Patrol 2. I have both and they work great in the area.
