I recently purchased a Pro-160. Can I program this scanner using a RS232 serial port cable?
I have one of these cables...I think it is 20-048?
I played around with it some and downloaded some software, but all I see is software for the usb cable.

If I can use this cable is there access to an older version of software that uses the serial port?

Thanks for any advice/help on this

The USB is a much better way to go. Most pc's don't have a physical serial port any more, but multiple usb ports. USB cables are also cheap and everywhere.

Just didn't want to spend 30.00 on a cable if I didn't have to. I have a PC with a serial port and wanted to use it if there is software still available. Thanks

A USB cable should not cost you more that $5 for a real good one.

Unless you need some special cable and not a basic cable.
Sounds like you might be looking for a serial to usb cable if the software is requiring a USB connection.
