Programming a 996P2 question

Hi all,
I done a search on RR and with my search criteria, could not find an answer.

Can I take a Uniden 396T freescan file and load it into a 996P2 scanner using Freescan?

My buddy has a new 996P2 and was just wondering.

As long as you are using version 2.18 or newer, just read the 396 and write the 996. FreeScan supports the T, XT, and P2 versions.

Then on the 996, look over the systems and see if on the 996 file for any that can add multisites. Also the 396t is the only radio that when it starts on any trunk system it will go to turtle speed while programming via pc.
Also you will now be able to set talkgroups for priority, adjust volumes on individual talkgroups, color alerts, adjust backlight colors instead of blue.

I found using version 2.18 that I had to do a read of the 996P2 first then copy and paste my systems in from a 996XT. The 996P2 would not take the 996XT file hole. The same thing happened with a couple of 325P2 scanners. For each P2 I programmed so far I had to read the P2 radios first and save the clean slate so to speak then copy and paste the systems in from the 996XT file.

I load a 15x, 996t, 996xt, 996p2, 396xt, 325p2 all off the same Freescan file rather than keeping separate files. That way all the quick keys are the same etc.

In your case both radios are digital, and that's the only consideration you have to make.

You can even load the same phase 2 systems into your 996t. Won't hear much unless they go to phase 1 mode, but you can continue to use the same files.
