• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am having issues with the the TX power on an orion radio. I have set the output level in the system to 10 watts but the radio still puts out 45 watts.

Is there any other way to adjust the power?

The setting in the system menu will get you close, or at least let you move it around a bit. Too better fine tune it, use RadioMaintenance and adjust it that way.

Orion's will only go down to 50% of rated maximum power.

IE: 110 watt radio will only go down to 55 watts.

M7100 high-power units are the same, only 50% normally.
M7100 mid/medium-power units can go lower. Usually down to eight(8) watts.

( ...I run my M7100's at 8 watts for short range car-to-car comms)

When in doubt, look at the tracking data for your radio.

On the System Tab in the personality file, under power level, leaving it at MAX runs the radio at full rated output power. Something less than max runs the radio at that power level designated by the numeric value entered, but only IF THE RADIO IS CALIBRATED FOR THAT POWER LEVEL.

IE:
If the radio is calibrated to handle power levels from 40 to 20 watts, entering MAX or 40 will give you 40 watts.
Entering in 50 will NOT give you fifty watts.
Entering in 36 watts will give you thirty-six watts.
Entering in 20 will give you twenty watts.
Entering in 5 will NOT give you five watts, but instead 20 watts.

I hope this helps.
