Those would vary, based on propagation. They could be heard on GHFS, on occasion.

Most of their comms will be via SatCom.

how do you pick up sat coms and what is GHFS?

The SatCom stuff you will not be able to hear.

GHFS is. DoD network, that USCG is allowed to access. If you follow the link provided for COTHEN, there should be links on that page for GHFS.

As others have mentioned, most of the USCG flight following is on COTHEN these days.

They also have other freqs.
5696, 8983, 11202 - Still used but not as much. Mostly Alaska usage now.
5693 SVN A (secure)
8980 SVN B (secure)

4125, 6215, 8291, 12290, 16420 are calling and distress channels.
The 4125 freq is used quite heavily in Alaska.

If you search around you can find other tactical HF freqs and satcom 401 net, HLS net, etc.

Most tactical operations for USCG are on the RESCUE-21 VHF P25 channels (CG101-CG151) for seaborne units, and the UHF P25 channels (CG401- ) for aircraft.

Those nets are listed here, and some of their specific areas per net are listed here.

Can anyone explain part of this decoded data from USCG COTHEN ALE?

[Sounding THIS WAS][from N10 ] [to Z31 ] (his BER=30 + SINAD=06)

The text in bold is what I'm referring to. I know N10 is a HC144A Aircraft & Z31 is believed to be a ground station in Oregon.
