RR has a listing of all the Pennsylvania State Police barracks locations, including all the counties they are located in. However, is there a list anywhere of the barrack's ID used on the cars? Examples P4, N2, R1, etc. I understand the first letter is the troop ID. Is there a list of the barracks' ID's?

Thanks for the information. Is that listed on RR and I just missed it? If not, could it be added to the PSP Wiki page for future reference?

It is a list I compiled on my own. I never got around to adding it to the wiki page. I find editing the wiki to be even more tedious than the database updates i do for the site. Since the wiki is open to editing by any members, I am going to leave that project to somebody else.

I don't think it would be hard to just add this list directly. Editing the current list in the wiki looks like it will be mildly annoying because of the way it is currently formatted.

Anyone know where the PSP unit "T E 3 2" would be assigned to? It was observied sitting on Henry Avenue in North West Philly and then shortly thereafter with a car stopped a couple blocks away.

I have seen many cars with the Phila (Belmont) markings ex. K 1 23, in the area, but never one marked as stated.

Never saw that one before. Must be some kind of specialized unit. There is a unit marked SHLD 14 that floats around the region and the turnpike. It specializes in traffic stops looking for drug trafficking.

The SHIELD program is "Safe Highways Initiative for Effective Law Enforcement and Detection" and units are part of the Division of Drug Law Enforcement

T is the Turnpike troop. E might be the Eastern Extension, or perhaps was an old or damaged 5?

Anybody have local observations that can update this listing? I noticed in news stories the other day about a chase on I-99 in PSP Philipsburg's area that the pictured cars had G7 and G8 numbers on them. The old list I put together had Pburg as G6 and Rockview as G7, but no G8. I wonder if Pburg is actually G8 and there is no G6? Some of the other troops have non-sequential numbers due to station closures or changes over the years. Ideas anyone?

On my list, there is no G6. G7 is Rockview and G8 is Phillipsburg, as you correctly surmised. My information came from PSP's website, before the Commonwealth redesigned all of their Web pages.

P.S. I have seen Highspire listed both as T0 and as T9 on different sources; I'm unsure which is correct.

I tried to use some photos from police cars buffs to figure things out. It was difficult for most of the troops, but it did help on the turnpike.

Here is a photo of a New Stanton car with a T9 designator on the roof:

I have never seen any vehicle with a T0, but they could just use unmarked since Highspire is not a patrol station...just where the brass for the Troop are located (turnpike HQ).

I did a quick compare between the two lists.

For Troop C, according to the PSP website, there is still a DuBois station. So, there is a discrepancy for C4 and C5 and which one will be Kane or DuBois.

For Troop G you have the G8 as Pburg, so we'll go with that.

For Troop J, you still have Ephrata listed. That station was closed a few years ago and all fucntions were merged with Lancaster.

For Troop L, you have Schuylkill Haven as L5, but it is L7. I can confirm this as I do work in Schuylkill County in the summer time, so I see the cars from time to time. House bill would mean increased fees for state police coverage - News - Republican Herald

For Troop T, there is some inconsistency between the two as mentioned in the previous post.

Overall, both lists were very close.

Are you sure it wasn't SHLD 14 and SHLD 15?

Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Yeah, they would likely have been SHLD which is short for "SHIELD". From last year's budget hearing documents:

...Bureau of Criminal Investigation's "Safe Highways Initiative through Effective Law Enforcement and Detectionn program, or SHIELD. The SHIELD Unit consists of three fulltime teams of Troopers which operate out of six different locations across the Commonwealth. The teams focus their efforts on the major interstates and highways throughout Pennsylvania. Last year, SHIELD Unit members conducted 4,609 traffic stops. As a result of their efforts, over $118 million of contraband and illicit drugs were seized."

My source for this list was PSP's website, and those data are at least several years old. At one point, PSP had a listing of each barracks with Troop designations in a spreadsheet-type format on their website, but since the entire Commonwealth redesigned the state portal a few years ago, that information was removed. I'm surprised there aren't more discrepancies on my list. I'll update what I have based upon your feedback. I have a friend who is a PCO at PSP Somerset, I'll see if he can give me a definitive update.

Do you know any Troop S station ID's from the old Interstate Patrol?
