Last night I spent a couple hours of quality-time with my receiving equipment in close proximity to the GOP debates held at the Venetian:

Our Secret Servants were busy on Charlie & Oscar channels, with brief use of Baker, and all were P-25 encoded & AES encrypted.

453.0375/DCS 243 simplex -- Sounded like CNN production crew --"Rubio is in the bathroom, but the other 8 are back on stage, & we have 90 seconds until we're live again."

466.9875/DCS 025 -- "They need to check with the candidates directly about the after-parties." "Better not lock that door until after Mr A leaves." Sounded to me like this is a simplex freq used by Venetian staff in the theater that the debates were held in. If so, "Mr A" would be Sheldon Adelson, the billionaire that owns the Venetian, & attended the debates.

468.2875/DCS 033 -- Personal security detail for SOMEONE involved with the debates. "Chang" & "Chippy" talked about moving the vehicle into position near the exit, the nuisance of dealing with the explosive detection dogs again, and getting their protectee to the Fox booth to pre-tape a Sean Hannity interview. Met-up to look at a potential new departure route. Based on traffic/context, it'd be someone that didn't have a SS detail. I expect Sean Hannity interviewed several of the candidates after the debate, so no clues there. Sheldon Adelson is a billionaire & quite probably has some sort of PSD, but I don't think he would have been interviewed by Hannity...

468.8125/DCS 073 -- "Santorum wants to go back to the Green Room." "OK but we have to see if it's ok with the Secret Service so don't head there yet."

Media stuff seemed to be hard wired -- no video production, IFBs, STLs, etc. heard. I mostly stuck to searching 150-174, 450-470, & scanning, analog & P-25 only. I easily could have missed any associated traffic on 800/900MHz, or anything that was DMR (which there is a lot of in LV).

One night about a month ago, I found myself sitting in my car in front of the Gold Spike in Downtown Las Vegas. Knowing that's where the new season of MTV's 'Real World' was currently in production, and knowing it's a 24/7 operation to film the shenanigans of the little hipster idiots, I fired up my signals intelligence gear:

451.825 simplex -- (one guy transmitting a 371 DCS)
462.5625 simplex (yes, it's FRS channel 1)
461.450 simplex
& possibly 463.925 simplex.

No CTCSS/DCS except for the one radio that transmitted it.

The above (except the last one) were confirmed based on radio traffic, as well as a visual/RF correlation.

A couple times some of the cast members wandered around "solo" inside the bar at Gold Spike & outside the place, & each had a gaggle of 4 or 5 production team members with them (assistant producer, sound guy, camera guy, light guy & sometimes a Gold Spike security person), hence the couple different freq in use for the same sort of radio traffic at the same time.

Not sure if filming is wrapped-up yet or not by now. I know it was still going on two weeks ago when I was at Gold Spike with friends, but I think it may be done.

Seems like the production offices were on the floor below the suite the cast was staying in -- perhaps that made it easier for the fixed wireless mic receivers. Radio traffic was sometimes amusing "Vanessa is heading outside now so you better hurry up!" "I'm mic'ing-up 'Morning Bear' [??] now." "CJ is in the shower." "She's in the bathroom straightening out her hair now, so we should be ready to go in about 30 minutes."

For a charity I volunteer at (you'll have to watch the show to figure out which), I was actually supposed to meet up with one of the cast members who came in (with her production crew) to volunteer there & train/supervise her. Woulda been a great way to maybe get more freqs & have myself appear on MTV, but I actually cancelled out on coming in that Saturday because I was expecting to need to be home to sign for a new Uniden 996P2 that was scheduled to arrive that day, so a staff member gave her the tour & training instead. If I were 20 years younger, I would have said F the scanner! & gone to the shelter...

Can anyone advise what freqs or system the Las Vegas Monorail security/police use for their ops?

Looks like it's some sort of UHF SMR system, as there's no license under the LV Monorail name. Some of them carry VHF radios for their licensed VHF freqs in order to make PA announcements, & the rail cars themselves have little UHF antennas under housings, probably for their 900MHz automatic vehicle locator system..

Right now on itinerant freq 464.550/179.9 simplex I'm hearing what sounds to be either someone directing a porn shoot, or directing a rehearsal for the Adult Video News Awards ceremony.

He's giving cues to camera people as well as talent, and while some of it clearly sounds like practice for an Awards ceremony -- "OK Eva, hand the crown over & then give the tiara to the runner-up, then you'll interview the winner." Some of it certainly sounds like a porn shoot -- "Damn it you guys, I can't see the penetration!" "OK, cut! Talent, go clean yourselves up & get back to the set quickly" etc.

I caught it mobile about an hour ago & now I'm hearing it from my home in the hills of Henderson. I assume they're on an upper floor of the Hard Rock Hotel.

I used to monitor a couple of the RTC supervisor talk groups on the SNACC system because they could get interesting at times, thanks to the wild creatures those buses transport.

I noticed starting a month or two ago that I was no longer hearing them, so I unlocked all the other RTC talk groups, and they're dead.

For you "helpful" people that would suggest they've migrated to the P25 SNACC system, I'm not hearing them there either.

The RTC guys always had data capability in addition to voice, but voice is important to have in emergencies. It should be pretty hard to hide a fleet as big as RTC & I doubt they'd switch to a commercial
SMR/ESMR, but does anyone know where RTC went, or do I need to put on my MOPP suit & hop on an RTC bus with my scanner in close-call mode?

Still looking for the LV Monorail security/police guys too...

Not hearing anything on 464.550 at the moment (6:30PM) from downtown but I have several buildings in my particular signal path to the Hard Rock so it wouldn't be surprising I suppose. They could also be done with whatever they were doing, of course.

What I noted with my own setup which is only using 2 RTL sticks is that if I monitor SNACC's analog system using their primary control channel at 854.4125 I don't get all of it meaning everything on the system aka none of the RTC traffic whatsoever and some other agencies using the SNACC system. If I alter the CC to the Apex Peak primary at 853.550 I'll get content from the RTC traffic and some other things as well (Taxi Authority, McCarran car rentals, etc) so I'm guessing the multi-site nature of things has something to do with it but I won't go so far as to stand by that since I'm not a radio comms tech or anything like it.

I don't get a particularly solid signal here in downtown with my given setup on the Apex 853.550 so I rarely bother monitoring it although I'm seeing traffic from all sorts of the stuff on SNACC that I don't get using the NLV simulcast frequency of 854.4125 which I pretty much constantly monitor. Using Unitrunker may not be the most efficient manner of doing this either - I still haven't been able to figure out if it's capable of multisite monitoring but I've read posts where folks have said it is. I've adjusted things and attempted to use multiple VFOs with just the CC frequencies on the Signal receiver (inside the same bandwidth) but whenever I do that I still only get data from the primary 1st VFO regardless of what else I attempt so I just decided to monitor that one CC and be done with it.

As for the Monorail, the frequencies already provided did prove useful in the past but I haven't monitored them recently. I noted traffic on them in 2014 but that was pretty much the last time I attempted to hear anything at all.

Filming for the next installment of the 'Jason Bourne' movie has been taking place in Clark County for the past couple weeks. There's going to be a big chase scene on the Las Vegas Strip, and they've been filming segments of it for a couple weeks now, with sections of Las Vegas Blvd closed-off to vehicular and even pedestrian traffic. Extras are used to populate the Strip sidewalks, and they're being told to just walk and act normally, but to look at the road & even point if they want when the chase goes past them.

Because of the LVB closure, they're filming early in the morning, from approx. midnight until 5AM, & as of today, the section of the Strip that's closed is from Koval to Flamingo.

The chase scene involves a car driven by 'Jason Bourne' being chased by LVMPD patrol cars, a motor unit, a SWAT armored vehicle, & perhaps others, however they also have to simulate normal LVB traffic, with dozens of other cars on the road, driven by extras.

I was curious about radio comms, so I infiltrated Las Vegas Blvd by posing as a Mexican porn-card slapper & took up a post in front of the Paris (where some of the cameras were located). They tried to get me to leave, but I just kept repeating "No comprende, no habla Engles!" to the production assistants, and tried to hand them the porn cards. When the police showed-up, I told them that I had a Constitutional right as an illegal immigrant to be there, handing out porn cards and I would sue them for discrimination and loss of income if they removed me. Once I promised the director I wouldn't look at the camera and allowed their makeup dept to improve my fake mustache, they left me alone & you'll see me in the movie. Credits at the end will list me as Juan Jose Jimenez.

So being there in the heart of the action (& really, there was very little action...) allowed me to search & use Close-call on my BC325 scanner, when I wasn't talking about escort services & recommending certain women for the production assistants.

LVMPD units involved in the street closure, etc. were using their Special Events 3 talk group.

Freqs used for the film shoot (all FM analog voice & simplex):

452.9875 DCS 054
452.4125 DCS 165
452.1375 DCS 331 car marshalls -- directing drivers back to spots on LVB for re-takes
452.0875 DCS 712 stunt drivers (sounded like they were Australian)
452.6375 DCS 205
457.6875 DCS 412 Channel 2
457.6375 DCS 162
457.1375 DCS 306
457.2875 DCS 244
457.9875 DCS 047
456.2375 DCS 632

I mostly focused on channel collection, but if I spend more time radio-geeking them in the future, I'll focus on channel #s & usage. Maybe next time I'll just set up a SIGINT station at the Cosmo, Bellagio or Paris in a room that faces the Strip.

This is too funny. I have seen them in action. Tap tap.

I'll try some of the frequencies on my next trip to LV this year.

------I was a driver during that week, and just to let you know - the radios were rentals. We each had one and there were over 120 drivers.
The radios had a rental company's name on them + I would have paid more attention If I'd known it mattered. The reason it might matter is the production crew was from L.A. So if the radios were from LA we'll probably never hear from them again :)

The Vegas Area Radio-Geek Alerting Network (VARGAN) recently conducted a field trip to the Downtown Container Park for liquid libations and to conduct research into local radio phenomena.

Individual members on trips had noticed DCP utilizing commercial portable two-way radios, and it was easy to assume they were on some sort of DMR system -- perhaps piggybacking onto the Zappo's network.

Therefore, the prestigious VARGAN membership on-scene was shocked & aghast (albeit somewhat attenuated by adult beverages) to determine that Downtown Container Park's security forces utilize 467.6875MHz with a CTCSS of 100Hz for their operational communications! For the uninformed, that's FRS channel 13...

So if you're paranoid, a frail girlie-man, a hot chick, or have people that really are out to get you but feel the need to socialize, set an FRS radio onto channel 13 with the 'privacy code' equal to 100Hz CTCSS & head-on into the Downtown Container Park. If anyone in there annoys you, you'll have direct radio communications with the DCP security personnel.

Sorry, but it doesn't seem like the Praying Mantis attendant carries a radio...

It's nothing for you pervs to get worked-up about, but I did just upload a recording of some of the above radio traffic to: https://www.dropbox.com/s/xfbs6zfibc9iu8n/AVN awards.m4a?dl=0

It is an m4a audio file. If necessary & at great inconvenience I could transfer & re-post as an mp3 audio file.

I just uploaded a couple LV-area related radio comms intercepts to my Dropbox storage page that you may be interested in:

Secret Service comms from a recent Donald Trump ("Mogul") campaign stop:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/v48wot3cfi6vwhc/Mogul.m4a?dl=0

Secret Service comms from a recent Bill Clinton ( "Eagle") campaign stop:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/a6489y8omevrfgb/Eagle.m4a?dl=0

Please utilize the above to give you fortitude to respond with "BS!!" the next time some idiot pontificates that all USSS operational comms are encrypted.

Misc. UHF radio comms during recent filming of the next 'Jason Bourne' action movie (several simplex channels): https://www.dropbox.com/s/96wb7qvivt2ces4/Bourne 5 Misc Comms.m4a?dl=0

All of these were impromptu recordings made in the field with my iPhone, and thus are somewhat sloppy plus use the m4a file format, which I hope you can all easily listen to because none are really worth it for me to primitively convert to mp3 or wav files.

Trying to come out for IWCE tomorrow and Thursday - what would be the proper CCFD and Vegas Metro fire dispatch channels closest to the strip to monitor? Thanks!

Strip area

I'd program in the snacc p25 system, the old snacc analog system and the new Metro phase II system.
