Cumberland County 911 communications have gone silent on the scanner today. Just got wind that Harris communications has outfitted the county with all new radio equipment/frequencies/talkgroups. Anyone have the scoop on the new frequencies or type of system they are now using?

Yes, they have went to a simulcast system. Depending on what model scanner you have and where you are located in relation to one of the sites you may or may not be able to pick the system up very well. Simulcast causes a lot of multipath problems in scanners.

I've been running pro96com for a day here is the information I have so far, maybe someone can update the database.

On a side note someone posted a list a while back of the freqs that they are licensed for and there are more than what is showing up right now. Not sure if they are for future expansion or other uses.

The talkgroups I have identified are named, the rest I'm not sure about although I think the ones toward the bottom are some type of patches. I did not that Crossville PD was patched in on the P25 system last night on one of the 9000 series talkgroups.

There has been a radio tech doing the testing "1,2,3,4....." all morning with really low/bad audio.

What would be the best scanner for the Cumberland County new, improved system?

That Pro06Com run confirms TDMA in use. I will try to get some updates done Saturday as I am off and not doing Christmas stuff.... Been real busy at other jobs.

I'll give you updated logs when I get back home tonight. Been running pro96com for about a week now. It's running in mixed mode right now. I imagine it will be full phase 2 once they get all phase 2 radios. The radio testing that is being heard is testing of the patches from vhf repeaters to the p25 system.

Biomedbob, I'm going to get the 436hp in a few weeks. I'll let you know how it performs with the simulcast. My 396xt is horrible unless it's sitting next to the computer. I guess there is enough interference there to block out all but the closest site. If you don't want to upgrade right yet you can try a yagi antenna to cut down on the multipath issues.

Here is the latest frequency dump from pro96com. Notice the one frequency that has zero hits. I think it's just a fluke of the software or something but I'm not sure. Seems to be 4 frequencies, phase 2 capable as of now. No idea if they will expand frequencies later or not. They do have several others licensed.

Technicians are still working on the system. I will update periodically. As of now a new freq of 453.6875 has showed up with 0 hits, the WACN now says 12560 and the flavor has changed to Phase 2.

Do you know, or anyone else here know, if the Pro-651/652 will still be able to receive this? Apologies if this is a dumb question but if pro96com can confirm TDMA as milf stated, I'm assuming it can decode it? Maybe not X2-TDMA? Could someone maybe clarify for educational purposes?

That scanner will continue to work on on the phase 1 talkgroups. At some point they will probably go full phase 2 when they get all phase 2 radios on the system. Then you will need to upgrade.

As a side note, the system is now simulcast meaning all sites transmit on the same frequencies and scanners do not handle this very well. My 396xt is useless and very choppy unless it's sitting next to the computer. You may find a spot that works well for you or you can get a yagi antenna and point it in different directions until you find what works best for your area. I will have a 436hp to test Wednesday hopefully it will work a bit better.

Thanks for the information. I guess I will start a rainy day fund for a new receiver. I've not heard of pro96com until now so I'll be experimenting with it this evening if I can find some time. Look forward to any updates on the system.

X-2 is no longer marketed. All P25 TDMA is Phase II.

Thanks for the info. I'm fairly new to the Digital / Trunking lingo so it's all a bit confusing. It seems all of the Phase II radio's seem to have their own individual quirks in the product reviews. Does anyone have a recommendation on what to buy for Phase II or could share their experiences?

Yes, I received it Wednesday. So far so good. There are a few places in the house that get garbled at times but its a vast improvement over the 396xt which was pretty much unable to receive anything at all most times unless it was sitting right next to the computer. My thinking is the RF the computer was putting out helped block all the sites except the closest one to me.

I've took it to town in the car and it worked great. I think it all depends on where you are in relation to receiving multiple sites and signal strength.

Actually.... The BCD436/536HP's have a better vocoder for P25 LSM systems.

Whatever the reason, it is a vast improvement although nowhere near perfect in my location. It sounded almost near perfect while I was in town. Your mileage may vary for anyone thinking to get one for the Cumberland county system.

I have updated the Cumberland County talkgroups in my BC325P2, but still not picking up anything, whereas I was picking up everything before they made the switch to Harris. It seems the site frequencies are the same and are still being utilized based on previous posts data dump info. Not sure what I may be doing wrong here, any suggestions?

Set up a brand new P25 standard system with the (4) frequencies that I posted that have hits. The freqs are now the same for all sites (simulcast) so it doesn't matter which one you are closest to. The database has NOT been updated yet so I would just ignore it. Make sure your scanner is in ID SEARCH and it should pick up all talkgroups....this is all assuming you aren't getting so much time delay interference that it's simply not decoding anything which is pretty much what my 396xt was doing at times. Nonetheless, you should be receiving the control channel when you program those 4 frequencies as a P25 standard trunking system.
