El Paso County - Deep Freeze 16 drill

EP County Emergency Planner, Rick White, says they will have the drill this Saturday (6 am to 9 pm - don't ask me why that doesn't jive with the schedule below), January 9th, with a scenario of a strong blizzard entering the county from the northwest going to the southeast part of the county.

The drill will include 30 agencies and almost 200 real-life scenarios such as stranded motorists, crashes, etc.

St. Francis Medical Center, Colo National Guard, Black Forest FD, Salvation Army and a bunch of others will be part of it.

AND they will be using 111 volunteers to be part of it.

Should be great listening!

---

Briefings on Friday will be held at the Office of Emergency Management, 3755 Mark Dabling Blvd. Colorado Springs.

The Colo National Guard will actually play a HUGE roll in this exercise and it sounds like it will be more statewide than I thought.

So TG-1229, TG-2395, and the MAC TGs will definitely be busy with them on there, as they were in past drills and other events.

Here is a link to the Colo Natl Guard page that talks about their participation in the drill. It details a few places where you might see them, such as El Paso County, Alamosa, Del Norte, Center, City of Evans, Castle Rock, and even earlier as part of another drill at Hahn's Peak near Steamboat Springs.

At least for the El Paso County portion, a go or no-go decision will be announced after 6:30 am on Saturday, followed by an announcement on the county OEM website, the comms checks and check-ins begin at 7:30 am. The good stuff (of the scenarios playing out) goes from 9 am to 3 pm.

Obviously there could be a lot of comms going on outside that window. I have several scanners recording, Pro96Com logging, and SDR dongles saving even more audio, to try to catch a lot more.

This sounds like a statewide drill though so listen for your area too. Let us know what you hear!
