• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

OK I picked up this cheap radio but can not get it to go into memory mode, I have downloaded a template from the radio and saved it, I then copied and pasted the freq's I wanted into the template and saved it as a separate file as well, I have uploaded the information to the radio however when I hold down the Menu button and turn on the radio it stays in Freq mode and does not change to memory mode, to verify that the channels were uploaded I downloaded from the radio and it shows everything there, BoeFeng Tech stated I had to go to the side bar menu from the template that I down loaded and change some settings there however when I do this the field is blank, no basic setting, no advanced settings etc. I have since boxed the radio and sent it back as tech support was not very helpful, but they seemed to imply I could make these changes without the radio connected, is this the case or must the radio be connected to computer and if so once I get in what changes do I need to make in software to allow the memory mode to work, I'm thinking of getting the UV-82HP but want this rectified before I order again. Also this does not seem to be a true dual band radio as I have no control over the lower channel bank. does anyone make a true dual band HT any more with dual receive.

Not sure about the 82C, as I have the 82HP, but I didn't have to do anything to it to make it work in channel mode. Just holding down menu while powering up, as you tried with the 82C. Not sure if that particular model works different or if you may have just got a bad one. Also the 82HP gives you control over both the upper and lower channel banks, so not really sure what's going on there either.

Since the 82C is authorized for commercial use, I'm guessing it's probably something to do with the fact that it can be set strictly to memory mode and won't allow changes, whereas the 82HP is different.

Hopefully someone else will be able to give you more info.

Download the software from Miklor. In the lower right hand section of the settings is a box that changes the setting from Menu to Freq.
