If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Just got a XTS 2500I VHF, the audio quality is really poor. It sounds like it has a little echo to it. Never has this issue with any of my other XTS radios. Any ideas how to fix it? It is being used mainly VHF analog, which is where the issues are. I don't think it's the speaker as the power up beep and other noises the radio makes sound fine.

Does it receive fine with P25 modulation? If so but analog is nasty, might be an issue in the FM demod circuitry..

Got a recording?

P25 sounds normal, its just on the analog, is a FM demod a big deal to fix? I will try and get a clip of sound

Are you talking about that hiccup-type sound break happening at roughly one-second intervals?

That sounds a lot like the radio is scanning a priority scanlist member with a very short scan interval - every time the radio wants to check the priority channel, it has to stop receiving the current transmission and use the receiver to check the priority channel's frequency...

Is scan programmed on that portable, or enabled?

If not, I'm a little more mystified.

I have the scan list programmed into it, would you recommend enabling it? How do I just enable it in CPS?

I still think it has a echo compared to my xts 500 and xts 1500.

That hiccup sounds like it's already enabled and trying to scan a priority scanlist member. If scan is not enabled (no little Z on the screen), that hiccup is something else.

And from the sounds of it that's not what you were talking about anyway.

I didn't hear any actual echo on the recording... the only thing out of place that I noticed was the constant <1s interval hiccup that breaks up words into twh-who, th-hree, etc on the test count in the recording. That sounds like priority scan.

Oh and I did notice the low batt chirp from the other portable ;)

Fix the hiccup, or is there another echo I didn't hear?

For the hiccup, ensure you are not currently in scan mode for starters.. I wasn't entirely sure if what you said earlier confirmed that you were not in scan mode.

Just for theory's sake, have you tried using another speaker (e.g. from the 1500)? If that's not it, whatever issue you're hearing (which I can't hear via the recording) has to be an issue on the vocon board. I'm not even allowed to repair or test properly for that stuff in-shop - M makes us ship to Depot if there's anything wrong on a board level besides replacing a volume control.
