• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Greetings,

We currently have a dozen or so MotoTRBO radios that use enhanced privacy on a couple of (digital) channels. If we purchase some Vertex EVX-539 radios, will we be able to program them to match the enhanced privacy of the MotoTRBO? I was told that no privacy and basic privacy should work fine but they were unsure of enhanced privacy. I have access to the enhanced privacy keys, so there is no issue there, just will the two different radios communicate with each other?

Thank you for your help!

We currently have XPR6550s and EVX534s running side by side with enhanced and are having no issues at all.

MotoTRBO's enhanced privacy is a 40 bit key. Most MotoTRBO enhanced privacy is exclusive in the fact that Motorola Enhanced Privacy encorporates ADP ( Advanced Digital Privacy). Now granted its secure, but not very secure. Unfortunately with all generation 1 radios you are stuck having to deal with this privacy. It is somewhat proprietary in the sense that it doesn't communicate well with other vendors. Basic privacy does though cause they tried to make that standard. Now what many vendors have done was make AES 256 bit keys standard. All Generation 2 MotoTRBO radios are eligible for the AES 256 upgrade available through MotoTRBO CPS. All other Gen 1 radios are not. Hytera offers AES 256 in their CPS from a firmware upgrade of their radio lines.

Have you any question please call 800.283.7839 for technical support

1) What is the difference between basic and enhanced privacy?

Enhance 256b AES encryption (EVX-534/539)
Basic range from 1-255

2) How many different keys are there with basic privacy?

255

3) How many different keys are there with enhanced privacy?

16 select slots
10 digit characters

4)How many different keys are there with enhanced encryption?

4) Will the basic or enhanced privacy in your eVerge radios work with the basic or enhanced privacy in MotoTRBO radios?

Only basic will work with Mototrbo

Thank you
